Am I the only Laydee who doesn't like high heels?

On THIS MORNING they were showing high heels of various styles

And to me they all look really uncomfortable

My sis wears them all the time even for shopping

I love my BIRKOS for summer and my {low heeled/flat} boots or trainers for winter

I know most people think I am "weird" BUT am I the only one?

I wonder how many of you will own up to also being "weird" in NOT liking high heels?

this the shoes???!!! !!!!

Blu · 27/02/2007 12:30

Ooh no I don't do high heels at all.
I look like a man in drag in them (same with make-up)
I think they look ridiculous as objects - I don't understand that 'thing' stuck on the bottom of the shoe...odd.
I hate having my natural movement restricted or moderated (my inbuilt frailities and creakiness are bad enough!) and never wear anything I can't run in.
'Prince', ladies, that's all I can say. Having a hip replacement while he staill has all his hair because he has worn heels all his perfoming life.

lissielou · 27/02/2007 12:32

the only heels i wear are kitten ones if we're going out. i hate high heels, plus im 5"2 with long legs so i look freaky in stilettos

serenity · 27/02/2007 12:36

I'm too tall, and my feet are too big to wear heels. I have two posh do's though this summer so I might have to break the golden rule and get something with a little heel. If I wear fancy flat sandals I look like someone has transplanted mens feet onto the bottom of my legs.

MamaG · 27/02/2007 12:42

here??!!!! !!!

sandcastles · 27/02/2007 12:45

'soon you wont' be able ot talk in flats'

MamaG, mainly because of the damage that prolonged use of heels has on the foot/leg muscles, rather than anything else.

MamaG · 27/02/2007 12:46

Yay CC you did it

Sandcastles- yup

NotQuiteCockney · 27/02/2007 12:47

I used to work with someone who couldn't walk barefoot, or in flats. She had to have high-heeled slippers. I guess her achilles tendon had shortened itself? [nauseated]

sandcastles · 27/02/2007 12:47

But that's nothing to be proud of, is it?

Imagine that new hip you will need soon....do you know how many people don't really ever walk properly after NHS hip ops? Is that worth 2/3/4/5 inches?

JackieNo · 27/02/2007 12:48

I've been training myself to wear heels - was never very good with them, and commuted into London for a while, which meant loads of walking, and got so fed up with having uncomfortable shoes I swore never to buy any more. But have decided I can cope with them a bit - and wedges are fab, and really comfortable (I have these and they're incredibly comfortable). I like the way that heels make me feel taller (am only 5' 4"), and more powerful.

MamaG · 27/02/2007 12:48

I'm always barefoot at home - so 3 days at work 9-5 in heels and maybe a couple of nights a fortnight?

Not tooo bad surely?

I won't won't won't wear birkenstocks

lissielou · 27/02/2007 12:54

jackieno, i love being tiny, people tend to underestimate you

JackieNo · 27/02/2007 13:01

I wouldn't mind having longer legs though, lissielou.

lissielou · 27/02/2007 13:03

lol.

laudaud · 27/02/2007 13:07

Size 43 - so I really am a freak or at least thats how I feel when I visit most shoe shops. Flats all the way - wouldn't want to tower over DH!

ernest · 27/02/2007 13:08

I hate heels. Nearly always wear mbt's. Don't look too attractive but the most comfortable shoes' I've ever worn. truly fantastic. And they make me look a bit taller.

geekgrrl · 27/02/2007 13:10

I can't walk in heels, add to that my size 44 feet and 5ft 10 frame, I just end up feeling like the Eiffel tower with anything other than a 2 inch heel.

Rantum · 27/02/2007 13:11

I love heels if I am going out (makes legs look great in the right dress). Problem is, since ds, I never go anywhere posh! Pooooor me. Otherwise, I agree totally - flat shoes are best for everyday especially for running around after my wild 2 yr old ds(and there ARE heaps of funky flat shoes/boots so they don't HAVE to be boring). Plus I am 5'9" so I don't need the height.

laudaud · 27/02/2007 13:13

geekgrrl
your feet are bigger than mine! Any recommendations on places to shop?

geekgrrl · 27/02/2007 13:16

I usually go to a 'huge feet' shoe shop in Germany when visiting family, sorry, that's not much help. However, I've also bought a few things from medissashoes.com - they do 'shopping events' throughout the country and have a good range of stuff.
As per usual though you have to pay about twice as much as all those dainty-footed people out there.

RTKangaMummy · 27/02/2007 23:01

Thank goodness I am not the only "weird" one

Thanks guys
