Talk to me about moving from highlights to semi-permanent blonde

I've had highlights (fairly natural mixture of a bit of bleach, lightish blonde and darkish blonde) on my shoulder length curly hair for about 20 years. I alternate between half head, t-section and full head and I'm starting to feel like it's looking a bit dated.

There's a promotional L'Oreal ad in my salon with a model with great hair, and my hairdressers says it's a permanent or semi-permanent all-over colour with a few highlights pulled through, and that it'd be great for me because it'd help with condition and be a lot cheaper! I do feel as though my hair could do with a bit of evening-out (quite dark underneath) but I don't want it to end up looking too flat. Has anyone gone from highlights to semi-permanent? What's the regrowth like?

I am no hair expert - but I don't think you can lighten hair on a semi permanent basis. Doesn't it require a bleaching agent first to lift the colour from the natural hair ?

OP's natural colour might be quite light though, lovelybangers. I use a diy semi permanent colour, usually honey blonde. I usually have to use it every 8 weeks. Regrowth is not too obvious, partly because my hair is wavy, like OP's and partly because it's only a shade or 2 lighter than my natural colour plus I'm going grey
