Fjallraven backpack anyone?

dailymaillazyjournos · 26/01/2017 18:37

Has anyone got/had one? I need to replace my ancient rucksack and really like the look of these (only seen them online, mind)

I would use it as a handbag substitute when I go out for the day and travelling as hand luggage, so it needs to be comfortable and sturdy.

I am looking at the Kanken classic ones. Are they good/hard-wearing and if not, does anyone have any other makes that are good. I don't want something too sporty looking as it won't be for sport/walking really and more for wearing around town? It's a lot to splash out on so don't want to regret it. Thanks.

I LOVE mine but I was aware that the straps can rub and damage clothes so I went for a Kanken Big as it has padded straps. I've done loads of backpacking and I can honestly say it's the most comfortable daypack I've ever worn. The best feature is that it opens right around the sides so if you plonk it on table / lap / floor you can access everything really easily. You can fit tons in it and I love the boxy shape. I took my very lovely, very grown up Radley tote out the other day and it just gave me shoulder ache after ten minutes. Kanken Big all the way.

Dd1 has two of them, one for school and one for play. I like them as I haven't had to replace her schoolbag every term (or so it felt) as we did previously. She likes the no frills style.

I was going to get one but went for one by Trakke instead. Loved it so much I have gotten a messenger bag too and DH has also got one of the smaller rucksacks. They're made in Glasgow and the quality, style and comfort factor is excellent, built to last a lifetime

SumAndSubstance · 27/01/2017 12:06

I've got one, but I find the straps are a bit short for wearing it as low as I like to wear backpacks. I feel I look like a nerdy hiker with it perched right up between my shoulder blades. I don't, therefore, use it much.

Omg! Love the tote one. Want it in every colour. Is it big enough for an a4 folder?

I have this in black and it is some of the best money I ever spent. I have been using it a few years now and there is not a sign of wear.

I bought it to hoik my laptop to client meetings in another city when massively pregnant, and regularly load super heavy shopping in it. It also fits nicely under a plane seat if using for hand luggage.

Every time I use it it makes me happy and I know I will have it for years and years and years, so I don't mind the price.

There's loads of fakes going about Camden Market when I was there last weekend, so it might fall off the hipster bandwagon because of it's popularity before too long!

sonlypuppyfat · 27/01/2017 16:14

I hope those camden fakes are ok I've got to buy one on Saturday

I've just bought a lovely Knomo one in the sale - www.knomobags.com/uk/bathurst-laptop-backpack-black.html

It has loads of space for my laptop, tablet, coat, purse, phone, notebooks etc.. I got the black quilted one but it also comes in a velvet version, or similar, but at a much higher price, in leather.

dailymaillazyjournos · 27/01/2017 17:34

Dottygame I was looking at the same Knomo one on the John Lewis website. I love how it looks and sounds but it is £99 on there which was stopping me sending off for it!!!!! I'm going to show them the link you've sent with it for £59 as they're supposed to price match. That's brilliant :)

It looks so smart and stylish.

John Lewis had a price match claim form on their website so I've filled in the details of the Knomo Bathurt. I really love the bag and £59 is a huge difference from £99 :)

Thanks for all your help everyone. I have just ordered the Knomo one off their site as the price match claim from JL didn't fit their criteria.

I had a big yellow one and used it as a changing bag. It looked awful, really dirty after a couple of months, and washing it made it look worn at corners. I feel like someone else earlier who said the quality was not good for the price. The straps were long and uncomfortable and it had no internal pockets, so stuff got jumbled up inside. I couldn't believe I'd paid nearly £90 for it. When a bottle of calpol leaked everywhere after I'd had it 18 months, I chucked it with relief rather than clean it. I only kept it as long as I did because it was so expensive and I couldn't sell it because it had worn so badly. Massive waste of money.

dailymaillazyjournos · 28/01/2017 21:33

Indiana that's really disappointing. You expect something to wear better when it's that expensive :(

I've had mine for 4 years and use it all the time. It's light, practical and hard wearing. No complaints here.

BeMorePanda · 07/02/2017 17:05

I got a Maxi a few years ago when DD2 graduated from the buggy and I had to start to carry stuff again. I can fit a day trip of stuff including picnic for 3 or 4 in there.

It is strong and waterproof & comfy. The front pocket could be bigger.

They are everywhere now - mine is gray (graphite) - and it does seem to be a popular colour. I'm 49 so pretty uncool - but they do seem to be really popular with teens/20-somethings.

I think they are designed to still look good when they get old and roughed up a bit, rather than designed to stay looking perfect year after year. I've only spot cleaned mine and its fine after 4 years use.

heateallthebuns · 07/02/2017 18:16

I had one for my school bag all through junior school and senior school, vvvvv hardwearing, I only had two over whole time and I think that was just coz I fancied a different colour!!!

BlueFolly · 07/02/2017 18:48

I have a knomo rucksack and love it!

I bloody love mine (Classic in khaki) but it does look a bit scruffy, after heavy daily use for 4 years. My only niggle is that I wish it had a couple of internal pockets/dividers. The boxy rectangular shape means you can definitely fit more in than a usual rucksack.
