Help me dress my tom-boy for the school disco!

My 10 year old DD is a complete tom-boy. She only owns (apart from her uniform) joggers, harem pants, sweat shirts, hoodies and t shirts.

Her school disco is coming up and I've said she can have a new outfit. Last year she asked for a red dress for the disco, and she wore it with a denim jacket and black ankle boots.
This year, she says she doesn't want a dress. But, a boy has asked her to go with him, and she says she wants to look 'pretty'. I know she won't be keen on anything feminine. She has rejected the dress, biker boots and biker jacker I suggested. She is also a bit overweight at the moment, and has a wee tummy. Leggings and a tunic would be ideal, but I can't seem to find any online. I'm at a complete loss. I deally I'd like to show her ideas online before we go shopping.
Help!

Mine would wear jeans or jeggings and a top of choice. She wears what she's comfortable in. She might use some hair chalk or sparkly eyeliner (she's a bit older though) as a nod to the "party".

As an aside, i dislike the term "tomboy". She's not a boy, and it "others" her, marking out that she's not a girl, in the stereotypical sense at least.

We have a lot of issues where people assume she's a boy. She isn't, not even a tomboy. She's a girl, who happens to dress how she likes, be active and have short hair. It doesn't make her any less of a girl, or more of a boy.

Where does tomboy come from any way? A tom is an unneutered male cat asfaik, so what't that got to do with anything?

Have you looked on Pinterest? I just did a quick search of Tween Fashion and lots of different things come up.
This blog has quite a lot of pictures to look at. I like the black dress and footless tights.

Zara and Vertbaudet are good for girls' clothes that aren't too girly.

My youngest dd doesn't like wearing dresses or skirts either. She normally goes for skinny jeans or leggings and a top.
She does sometimes wear shorts and tights too.
For her Christmas disco she wore skinny jeans and a checked shirt.

I was like her at the same age. For discos, I used to wear shorts over tights and a sparkly top or, if I had to wear a dress, denim was acceptable - because I associated it with jeans!

Would she wear a playsuit?

Can't link rn, but Next have a denim shift dress and a couple of tencel playsuits that I'd love to wear right now! Grin

My dd is similar, and usually wears leggings with shorts over the top (eg denim shorts), with a nice t-shirt/sweatshirt.

What about ripped jeans and docs? My 11 year old wears her docs with everything, ha she them in a few colours. She's not a particularly girly girl in the way she dresses, she doesn't give a toot about how other girls dress either.

9 year old with Aspergers wears bright leggings, I get a lot of them from river island, wears them with wears them with trainers, always. NONe of the 3 younger girls own girly shoes. even my 5 year old wears her docs with everything.

Thanks everyone
NewPants Zara is my usual shop of choice, but their current items haven't inspired. Hadn't thought of Vertbaudet. I'll have a browse.
1HappyHippy a checked shirt is an axcellent idea.

My DD (nearly 9), like cuffed trousers (harem pants without the MC Hammer bit) and a lace tshirt.

NewPantsforaNewYear · 24/01/2017 15:00

Ive just remembered M&Co. Their Kylie range is definitely non-frilly

WyfOfBathe · 24/01/2017 15:08

The biker jacket and boots you suggested, but with dark skinny jeans/leggings and a sparkly or colourful top?

Is spray in hair glitter still a thing? That was a necessity for all school discos when I was at primary school.

FauxFox · 24/01/2017 15:56

camo playsuit?
