What to wear to a black tie event with a fabulous band

Hello all, I'm looking for some advice on what to wear to a black tie event.

The main issue I'm having is that I would tend to go for a long, floor-length dress for a black tie event, but there will be a really good band playing. We've seen them a few times before and they are fantastic, we usually end up bouncing around and really going for it (especially after a few Wine).

So, do I go for a knee-length dress that will be easy to dance in? Floor-length but loose, so I can grab one side of it and hoik it up a bit to dance (did that at my wedding with a chiffon floor-length flowy dress - same band too!)? Long with a slit? Prom-style? Tight? Oh and nothing red, my sister is wearing a red dress and would literally kill me if I wore the same as her.

I'm an 8 on top and 10 on bottom, with a small waist but quite wide hips/bum/thighs. Not sure of breast size as I'm still wearing stretchy nursing bras Blush but maybe around 32D.

Here are some I've been looking at:

Long and navy
Long and black
Long and green
Long and blue
Short and green
Short and floral

I very rarely wear dresses anyway, so this is proving to be pretty tricky! The event is not until this time next month, it's a Valentine's Ball.

Thanks!

long with a slit sounds good. I don't like the colour of the blue one, what about this one

Love the first three, and they all look ideal for black-tie to me. I'm not keen on either of the green ones but do like the short floral, although I wouldn't immediately think of it as black-tie. You'll know the crowd better than me though - will people stick to the dress code? I think long or midi is best for black-tie although these are all fairly arbitrary rules!

On another note, can I very respectfully suggest that if you're a size 8 on top, you are not a 32D - try a 28E as a starting point (you may have to go to Bravissimo, in which case, get measured there, or order online.

I'm very jealous - I LOVE a fancy night out with good dancing!!
