Glamorous/Designer Flying Travel Bag Recommendations (Handbag Not Carry on)

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good stylish handbag for taking on to a long haul flight?

I'm looking for something which matches this wishe list:

  1. Stylish looking with a bit of designer cachet. Doesn't have to be a known label as long as it looks fabulous.
  2. Big enough to hold a small laptop, large over ear noise cancelling headphones, large/thick book, bottle of water, phone etc. So reasonable sized but not gargantuan or over heavy/massive.
  3. A couple of interior pockets including a phone pocket.
  4. Not "open" at the top - ie. fastenable so thieves can't just dip hand in in the airport queue.
  5. Comfortable to carry - preferably with top handles that are big enough to go over the shoulder but can also be carried with arm straight down or in crook of arm.

Is this a fantasy? I often see women looking fabulously elegant with a smart bag large enough to hold stuff but never seem to find one myself.

I really hate that Longchamp style so don't want anything that looks like a shopping bag.

Please help me!

Is it the case that you can only get that airport style "look" if you have an open topped bag?!?!

LOL RonaldMcDonald - I don't like anything very obviously labelled - so I dislike that LV print precisely for that reason. In fact it was the current version of that bag - the open topped shopper - I had in mind when I wrote my post.

That's part of the reason I don't really like Michael Kors - it's all so in your face with the MK charm as well. Same for any Burberry bag with too much Burberry check on it.

How about a Gucci Canvas Backpack?

ttps://www.gucci.com/us/en/pr/men/mens-bags/mens-backpacks/techno-canvas-backpack-p-337075KWT6N1060?position=71&listName=ProductGridComponent&categoryPath=Men/Mens-Bags/Mens-Backpacks

It says it's for men, but I think it is unisex. I have a very simple black canvas bag (unfortunately not available anymore) from them. It's ultra light, robust and I can press it even in my little suitcase when I'm flying with Easyjet. Wink

That's the zip closure version, I do take your point and know there are horses for courses.

I believe brands depend on your social circle etc etc.
Everyone I know lugs big lovely LV and we have done so for 25 plus years ( yep that old) - some of the bags we still use are in fact 20+ yrs old. The leather just looks better and better.
Ditto Burberry check - stunning on the right person, piece and in the right place
Many friends carried Mulberry endlessly for work before they became garish.

I feel sad that the use of replicas has in some way detracted from really rather lovely high end brands and that this has contributed to a sense that they might be in some way similar to a flashy but ultimately v v ordinary brash brands like Kors....

I have always easily been able to spot a fake LV, I think anyone who has ever actually owned one would give it a good stab.
Burberry was at times less clear cut due to their lower price point at entry -making the bag or its carrier less of a screaming give away.

I have see many many chic women lug a pile of trash all hidden in a zip close LV tote and look utterly amazing. I feel it depends on your view and knowledge/history of brands. I reiterate that I am often bumped and I blame the LV .....sometimes obviously expensive branding helps imo...

Pipachi thanks for your suggestion but I already have several designer backpacks and I'm really after a handbag here. I'm not criticising backpacks at all as I use them a lot but I'm fantasising about a very stylish travel look!

I think it's hard to be stylish with a backpack. Not impossible if you are a model or very thin (so the backpack falls in a way that isn't hideously unflattering) but on ordinary people it doesn't look good.

In my head, I want to look like this kind of thing (style wise I mean not physically!!):

I have Knomo bags for work trips and know what you mean, OP. They're just not arrestingly stylish.

Not a lot of fully zipped large totes spring to mind for me at the moment. There's the Coach Brooklyn 34. It's smaller than the Antigona (which personally I think you should get!) but should fit a small laptop.

Oh yes, very similar to the Antigona, though again on the small side, is the Mini Perry from Rebecca Minkoff.

WI like Coach too, I have a very classy one in black and cream leather that's quite large but is a couple of years old now.
Or there's this, comes in a few colours

Thank you for further suggestions - will have a more detailed look.
On first impressions the Minkoff Mini Perry seems most up my street. I have to say I don't like that kind of knobbly non-smooth leather generally.

I have a large chloe bag. It's years old so I can't find a link. It can fit an outfit for a weekend away, toiletries, laptop, book etc but not look bulky for going out with. I adore it .
