Leather soles on shoes - always so flimsy?

About a year ago I treated myself to some rather expensive ankle boots. They are British made, all leather, and seemed very good quality. However, yesterday I realised that one has developed a hole in its leather sole - not quite a big gaping hole, but it's very thin and the leather is disintegrating!

I have had leather soled shoes before but they have been quite sturdy. I am also used to taking shoes to the cobbler to get the heels done but nothing like this!! The top part of the shoe still looks nearly brand new but it's clear I can't wear them unless I get them completely re-soled! Has anyone else had that happen?

Whenever I've spent £100+ on shoes/boots and I know I'm going to keep them once wearing them around the house I get them soled before wearing them ouside. I'm very heavy on shoes so find it's worth the extra tenner - It's meant my no longer available Duo boots have lasted YEARS and still look in great nick. Leather soles go so quickly....but at least you can get them resoled which I guess is where the quality of the uppers comes into its own.

I can never understand leather soled shoes! They are dangerously slippery in the rain and distort when wet. I had the most gorgeous pair of leather soles boots, wore them in the rain when brand new and they were fucked forever. The soles bent out of shape, so even after getting them resoled they wore out too much on a certain area. I was so upset, I agree with the previous poster and get any new leather soled shoes resoled ASAP!

Op, can you name the brand pls? Would be helpful to know!
