I use soak. It's sold at yarn shows to us knitters that are obsessed with posh yarns! 😂 lots of lovely scents, it's quite costly, but lasts absolutely ages.
I do my bras in it too.

AFierceBadRabbit · 07/01/2017 11:38

Have used woolite, APC fine fabric care and johnsons baby shampoo.

Baby shampoo works best for me, esp with merino & silk.

APC never again really because it's such an odd, unfresh smell.

HowardMoonsJazzTrumpet · 07/01/2017 11:43

Speaking of funny smells - I hate the weirdly 'farty' smell of wet cashmere and merino. Especially merino. Horrible

I've got some £££ stuff from The Laundress, don't bother trying it, it's nothing special at all.

Particularly prior to storage

Wash woollens with Eucalan

Eucalyptus oil is a natural moth inhibitor

Thanks for that tip lovelearning. I have had a moth problem this year & am bereft at the loss of so many favourite sweaters so many £££.
Eucalan, here I come.

RubyPumps · 07/01/2017 17:49

lovelearning how strong does Eucalan smell Pls...the website says it's "good for men" so I'm wondering if that's alluding to an overpowering eucalyptus scent.

onthelevel · 07/01/2017 17:56

I use any supermarket own brand, silk/ wool delicates washing liquid, I always use the cold wool wash programme in my washing machine with good results!

RubyPumps · 07/01/2017 17:56

monkey that's happened to me a long time ago. Since then I store each item separately in a large ziplock. It's never been a problem since.

However, one can never bee to careful. Hence my interest in the Eucalan Wink

Artandco · 07/01/2017 18:13

I never hand wash either. All cashmere thrown in washing mashing on 30 degree wool wash setting. With woolite.

RandomWordsandaNumber5 · 07/01/2017 18:16

Another vote for Woolite. I hand wash then roll the garment in a towel to get rid of some of the moisture and then dry flat. No disasters yet.

Bobochic · 07/01/2017 18:19

Woo lite, in my Siemens washing machine.

MaryManchego · 07/01/2017 18:19

Eucalan has quite a nice mild scent. It comes in other flavours too, I like the grapefruit one. You don't need to rinse so quite easy (I haven't got cashmere jumpers but a knitting habit)

RubyPumps · 07/01/2017 19:08

Thanks Mary I'll try that one first....love the smell of grapefruit.

aniceearlynight · 07/01/2017 22:05

Johnson's Baby Shampoo in a ball dispenser in the machine with cashmere in a net laundry bag on a cold wool wash. Dry flat on a towel. No holes yet!

FurryLittleTwerp · 07/01/2017 22:09

I use supermarket own brand delicate wash stuff, either hand washed or for less precious things, in a cool wool wash.

Only disaster I've had was when using a "dry clean at home in the tumble dryer" thing & shrank a favourite jumper to doll-size Sad

PollysPoppy · 07/01/2017 23:13

The one and only time I put my (then one and only) cashmere sweater in the machine, it shrank. Now it's handwash, fold in a towel on top of aga and then hng on drying rack when almost dry. Seems a faff but itsn really. Like the sound of a grapefruit wash!!

I use hair shampoo & conditioner on wool & silk.

Fiona2609 · 08/01/2017 09:29

I have a lot of Pure Collection cashmere. I wash them on the hand wash/wool programme of my machine with the temperature reduced to 20°c and use Perwoll for delicates plus Lenor, which is the combination I use for all my washing. I even put the woollen things in the dryer on the wool programme before hanging over radiators to air. No disasters so far.
