One intended to last you a lifetime? Smile

I bought a Guess leather jacket for €300 in October. Its beautiful and got lots of compliments when wearing it. I have a Bally black leather jacket that's too big for me- am going to Ebay it..

LobsterQuadrille · 01/01/2017 12:08

It's lovely - go for it! No point getting black just because everyone else does and especially not if you feel it doesn't suit you. Someone once said to me that they worked out "cost per wear" of their expensive leather jacket and it was fractional compared with evening dresses worn once or twice.

theclick · 01/01/2017 12:09

I've spent £100 on real leather jackets from H&M. But I'm a cheapskate.

theclick · 01/01/2017 12:11

Can I ask tho, what season do you wear leather jackets in? I'm always too cold for mine. I desperately want to wear it but it never happens.

LobsterQuadrille · 01/01/2017 12:15

I wear mine if it's 8 degrees or above - maybe with a T shirt and thickish cardigan or a slightly chunky jumper. Say 10 to 12 degrees and just a T shirt.

I found a place in North London which makes them how you want them and will adjust the pattern to fit. All for around £250. So ordered mine on Friday. It's my first ever leather jacket. Have gone for dark grey.

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/01/2017 13:12

I bought a Whistles one which was £350 - but I had vouchers and the Grazia discount code. Prior to that I had an Oasis one which was about £150, and I pretty much wore until it fell apart, so I figured it was worth the investment. I wear mine all year round - I had it on on Friday with a jumper and a big cashmere scarf. They are good when it's windy.

AgeingArtemis · 01/01/2017 13:16

Mine was a calvin klein one from TK MAXX- 100 pounds instead of 450. I wouldn't have bought it at full price because it's a slightly unusual style and I'm not sure if I'll wear it for years and years, but I certainly love it now!

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 01/01/2017 13:33

I wouldn't buy any item of clothing thinking it would last me a lifetime, tbh. People change, in size as well as in attitude!

I'd spend up to £200 on a leather jacket that I loved and expect to wear it until it fell apart or I fell out of love with it (so not a lifetime), but I'd rather have several cheaper ones than just one really expensive one. I have three (black, grey, chocolate) and they go with different things and give different looks - I wouldn't want to wear just the same one with everything.

Personally if I didn't think black suited me, I'd go for grey or chocolate rather than navy.

HolgerDanske · 01/01/2017 17:51

Navy is a lovely colour. I've got a very dark blue biker, it almost looks black, but it's just a tiny bit less harsh and I prefer it to my black one.

If you've seen it and love it suits you then yes, you should get it. That price is a great saving and it will last years if you are reasonably careful with it.

I love my leather jackets.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 01/01/2017 18:51

I have a lovely black biker one I picked up in Next for £50 about 15 years ago.
I just need to get back down to a size 10!

yellowstarlight · 01/01/2017 18:54

Do you wear your jackets out in the rain?

OP posts:
AyeAmarok · 01/01/2017 21:21

I do.

I've never noticed it has changed the colour of them, and even if it did it would just make it look a bit more broken in, which is how leather jackets should be IMO!

SuperFlyHigh · 01/01/2017 22:04

I personally haven't paid this for it as it was a gift but £500 for a Nicole Farhi leather jacket. It is lovely and certainly looks worth the money.

everythingis · 01/01/2017 22:46

I bought one in the all saints sale for £125 reduced From £300. That was in Jan 2014 and it doesn't look like it's ever left the house though I wear it a lot - well worth the cash!

I also have a biker I bought for £90 in topshop in 1998 which though I had the zip replaced is otherwise still going strong and looks very vintage and cool

oldlaundbooth · 02/01/2017 00:56

Came on to say £400, so £279 seems a bargain.

oldlaundbooth · 02/01/2017 00:57

Just seen your link.

Ding dong that jacket is beautiful! Great cut and colour, if I had £300 spare I'd buy it.

yellowstarlight · 02/01/2017 14:08

I've bought it grin
