Shampoo advice - sensitive scalp

Hi ..looking for recommendations. I have a sensitive scalp, prone to eczema and it is very itchy at the moment. The GP tends to prescribe coal-tar based shampoos which don't agree with me. Years ago I used to use a Kerastase shampoo for sensitive scalps (green bottle) but looking at their range now it has changed and there are a few different products now available.

Can anyone recommend a shampoo they have used that has calmed a dry, flaky sensitive scalp? Not coal tar based....

Thank you!

I use moogoo, and then Avalon lemon and then Avalon tea tree. I also use a coal one every few weeks. And finally I have a natura siberica scalp scrub - which I love. My scalp feels like it needs (gently) stripping sometimes. I've just got some of their scalp oil as well for xmas which I seem to like so will probably try their shampoo and conditioner soon as well.

Have you tried Selsun? It was prescribed for my 8 yr old daughter who has eczema and a very flaky scalp and it's been great. It's over the counter and only about £3 for a bottle.
I use tar shampoo and alternate with L'Oréal clay shampoo & conditioner as weirdly I have flaky scalp but greasy roots and dry ends!

Kerastase Dermo Calm ?
Is that the one discontinued ?
Elave do really gentle shampoos. Google them.
Elave are Irish products for people with sensitive skin.
Boots Ireland have it but not sure about Boots UK.

The betnovate does sting, but only for a few seconds, and in my opinion, is well worth it to help stop the itching.

CurbsideProphet · 01/01/2017 22:43

bumbling I also have flaky scalp, greasy roots, dry ends. Such a nuisance Sad
Mbear I like the sound of a scalp scrub. Where do you buy yours from?

purpleshortcake · 02/01/2017 11:38

Anyone found a conditioner that works well with these products?

I use the Betnovate cream. It doesn't sting.
It makes the scalp/ hair really greasy though.
I think you have Psoriosis not excema.

purple I alternate Yes to Carrots scalp relief conditioner with Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat conditioner Smile

The only thing that works for me is Philip Kingsley Itchy Flaky Scalp shampoo - get it from Amazon or QVC. Pricey but the only thing that's stopped my scalp itching and I've tried literally everything.

I use standard Vosene but have to say changing my diet to avoid gluten and reduce dairy made the biggest difference to my eczema and scabby scalp.

Mbear · 02/01/2017 20:44

Curbside - I can get mine locally from whole foods. But this is the item from Amazon. I really like it, so hope you do to! Raspberry seeds get everywhere though Grin

I like the Redken one for stressed scalp. I have dyed hair and it doesn't seem to affect it

trigger2 · 02/01/2017 21:53

I like the Redken one for stressed hair and scalp which also doesn't affect my colour. The other thing I find helps is schwarzkopf Bonacure rose oil for hair and scalp & it doesn't make it too greasy.

Ok so here goes...experiment number 1! Reckon I'll give it a week to see if any improvement...(I wash my hair daily!). A lot of people seem to favour rotating different shampoos so I think I'll try some of the others even if this improves things. Cheers guys!

Good luck!

(I don't think you'll need another one. Whenever I use anything else, my scalp starts falling off againBlush)

mintmagnummm · 03/01/2017 17:58

What conditioner do you use with that ginger shampoo? I used to use it with the banana conditioner but it just wasn't right for my hair! And not sure if the ginger shamp faded my colour quick

slinkysaluki · 03/01/2017 21:29

Sebomed I get it in Savers or Nizoral. I can use it on my scalp and my skin as I get fungal skin rash, the doc prescribed Nizoral.

I use the Superdrug coconut water hair masque as a conditioner. It's fab. Blue and white tub. (I have dry hair though) I also had a bad scalp (and bad rashes) but testing results said it was an allergy to a chemical found in most shampoos etc. Body shop doesn't have it in theirs of course and neither does the coconut conditioner
