What to wear with red maxi dress on Christmas Day?

I've decided that I want to wear red on Christmas Day. I've got a plain red maxi dress, with spaghetti style straps, but due to the style of it it is a bit revealing. What can I wear with it chrismas day? I was thinking maybe a black crop top underneath (I thought vest top at first but they tend to ride up and bunch up), and maybe a long black cardigan on top? Or perhaps a white blouse open?
I'm really not sure? Any ideas? Shoes will be black or white, depending on what else I wear.

(And I don't really have the time or money to go and get something else)

Something else I've just thought of, a black flowy top with white dots over the top of the dress, that will fall about waist length. And then a long cardigan on top.

Have you got a pashmnina/scarf type thing you could wrap round and pin to cover you up?

A jumper, a dress and a cardigan sounds a bit hot, as in you may over heat, i wouldn't wear a top underneath, I'd wear either a jumper or a cardigan over the top.

I 'd wear something over it, rather than under it. White blouse or black cardigan sound ok!

I would wear a neat fitting black cardigan and fasten a few of the buttonsp. It has to be a shortish one [ to the waist]
I cant picture anything under it or even a white shirt over it. I think that would look horrible. A jumper would be ok [ black] but it would make it look like a skirt?

White blouse sounds weird, sorry. Long cardigan might make it all a bit droopy. I'd go either for a short black cardigan, or a fabric biker, or wear a different dress tbh.

definitely not anything under it.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a black jumper, but tried everything else suggested yesterday (wanted to be prepared and ready), but I didn't like the way it looked. So I'm going with the person who suggested a different dress. It's not red, but pink so fairly close. And I can wear it on its own with nothing else, and it's dead comfy which is most important today.
