Summer holiday wardrobe

Ok, so I know I'm a little early but I'm sooooo excited to be going abroad on holiday for the first time in years. Usual holiday clothing consists of jeans, boots and a fleece. But instead of rainy camping, we're going to Italy. Yipppeeeee!!!!

But what's a girl to wear???

I don't do sitting by the pool - we'll be travelling around beautiful villages and cities during the day with a fair bit of eating out. I also have a bit of a problem with my legs cos they just don't change colour - so I'd prefer to cover them up (though now that our children are wearing footless tights I really feel I shouldn't join in). However, I could also splash out on industrial quantities of fake tan, cos I love a knee length skirt. Will they be worth investing in this summer???

Hi, my legs also do not change colour.
Invest in a spray tan before you go, you can top it up with johnson's tanning body lotion stuff while your there.
I've got a lovely knee length (gasp) skirt for summer with slingback platform wedges. Will wear with small t shirt.

You need to get into accessories I reckon. The italians are very homogenous style-wise so it will be hard to compete with them on their own terms...stick with your own style!

PeachesMcLean · 17/02/2007 21:32

Thanks mousie but I've lost track of what my own style is! My only hope is to steal someone else's.

Platform wedges sound very lovely.

I'm very much liking long tops at the moment. What can I wear on the bottom? Do they go with knee length skirts?

If you don't fancy a skirt, how about some wide legged linen trousers? Can be casual or elegant, as the occasion demands. Can wear with flats or wedges, depending on your style.

JackieNo · 17/02/2007 21:42

Wrap have some - these are quite casual, as are these . I like these too.

PeachesMcLean · 17/02/2007 21:56

With a flat pump or a chunky wedge? How about with a dress over the top??
Hot weather's a challenge though for me - we're going in June but I'm useless in the heat so may as well assume I'm dressing for a tropical heat wave.
How about floaty day dresses? What are we looking forward to wearing this year in that department?

I think with a flat pump or a chunky wedge equally OK (though if you're talking about a really high wedge you might struggle to get trousers that are the right length to wear with both those and flats, iyswim). And yes, I reckon you can wear long tops and dresses over.

Not sure about summery dresses. Will have a bit of a think...

JackieNo · 17/02/2007 22:11

Principles have loads of tunicy tops atm, but I think the really summery stuff may not be in the shops yet.

Have to admit, even having had a look at some magazines, I don't really know what sort of dresses are likely to be around - maybe someone more knowledgeable will be along to advise (MrsBadger, anniemac, cod etc).

PeachesMcLean · 17/02/2007 22:20

Well that's bizarre. I'd never normally look in Principles but I like some of those.
Thanks JackieNo, TBH even though the summer stuff isn't out, I'm just trying to get my head around a few things so that if I see something that would work - and not make me look like a idiot - I'm confident enough to just buy it.
Will be taking more notice of the Style threads in future.

If you struggle with the heat, get some flat pumps, you don't want to be struggling with heels if your overhot!
3/4 length trousers with a long top and some pumps would be lovely.
Can't do links, just out of my head, red pumps, white 3/4 trousers and a nice red/white print tunic/dress for over?
