job interview advice - which of these two shall I wear?

have very important interview next week and need some advice (cod style brutality welcome!)

I bought this stunningly lovely office bitch dress from karen millen today - but it is a bit, well, not what people normally wear for a job interview!

Otherwise I can play safe (and dull!) with this ?

Which shall I wear (the other will be returned to shop!)

i would go for the 'dull and safe'

only becausde its an interview and first impressions can affect you majorly, id spice it up with and interesting girly shirt though

then knock em dead with the 'powerdress' on my first day :D

Dottydot · 17/02/2007 16:39

I'd go for the safe option (sorry, boring I know...)

DimpledThighs · 17/02/2007 18:18

oh I so wanted to be the karen millen type not the m&s type but I know you are probably right!

Wear the dress definitely, I think it shows more confidence and individuality. This may of course be a good or bad thing depending on the job you are going for.

What's the job for? I'd say dress personally unless it's something like tax inspector...

schnapps · 17/02/2007 19:17

I think both outfits are nice, but I really like the dress, and I agree that it would make you look confident and individual. Everyone will probably be wearing a black trouser suit or something very similar, the dress is very smart but a bit different and will make you stand out, but not too much!

Ceolas · 17/02/2007 19:19

I like the dress. It's not outrageous, is it?

mumof5boys · 17/02/2007 19:22

Dress for sure, you'll look fab & confident,
Good luck x

depends on the job tbh. If it was a media type/fashion type marketing even type job, then the dress would be OK.

If it is an office based 'typical' job then teh suit.

pointydog · 17/02/2007 19:44

safe option. but you can spice it up a bit with blouse/brooch/shoes if you want to show a bit of individuality.

janeite · 17/02/2007 19:52

The dress is lovely and you'll stand out if everybody else has gone for the black suit option. Though I agree with the others that it depends what kind of job you're going for.

DimpledThighs · 18/02/2007 01:10

oh thanks - my sis said dress too and she is hard to convince!

Whatis the job for as that makes a difference.

I personally would wear the dress as it will make you look confident and it is a distinguishable feature for them to tag on to you. I never dress safe for interviews and ahve never attended and interview and not got the job.

ScummyMummy · 18/02/2007 01:47

I think either will be fine as long as you feel confident that you look good. Good luck.

Ceolas · 18/02/2007 13:23

Do we have a decision?

DimpledThighs · 18/02/2007 15:05

I think I am going to go for the dress - I know it is more risky but it is more 'me' than the suit. I thought i would wear the suit jacket ove it and if it feels too much keep the jacket on but my heart says dres dress dress.

I don't want to say what job because I like my mumsnet anonymity but it is kind of medical/research/management type thing.

Thanks so much for the input - am most flattered!

Yay! Good luck!

colditz · 18/02/2007 16:02

Actually I would go for the dress. It's not tarty or remotely inappropriate, and it might mean the interviewer remembers you which cannot be a bad thing.

Wuxiapian · 18/02/2007 17:03

I always think a suit always looks more professional. Be smart and well groomed.
