Where would you buy a suit from on the high street?

I'm after a decent suit but I have no idea what I'm doing, all of my office wear comes from Next, I'm basically fashion illiterate, help? what do I need to know?

Budget? Next do suits.

AmberEars · 02/12/2016 18:50

Personally I'd go for M&S

MainliningChocolate · 02/12/2016 19:02

Reiss if budget allows.

SinglePringle · 02/12/2016 19:03

Reiss, Karen Millen (at a push - not a massive fan), The Kooples, Massimo Dutti, Whistles (mix and match), Jaeger, Hugo Boss, The Outnet.

dibly · 02/12/2016 19:05

Jigsaw

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 02/12/2016 19:05

Reiss or Hobbs. I like Phase Eight for workwear, but I'm not sure they do suits.

If you are short the choice shrinks by 90%

AddToBasket · 02/12/2016 20:20

Jigsaw, Hobbs

OCSockOrphanage · 02/12/2016 20:30

Would I buy a suit? These days, probably would go for very well coordinated separates. Reiss, Hobbs or Jigsaw I think. Winser online, for a slightly more feminine wibe.

LobsterQuadrille · 02/12/2016 21:09

All my work suits are Hobbs. They are machine washable too.

MeadowHay · 02/12/2016 22:04

I've been looking everywhere within my budget (which is small lol) with very little joy. Warehouse, Zara, and M&S pretty much all there is within my budget.

OlennasWimple · 03/12/2016 04:01

What are you actually after, OP?

margaritasbythesea · 03/12/2016 08:26

I saw a lovely notch neck suit jacket in Zara basics the other day. The material was great and the cut lovely. I just didn't need it. I didn't look for bottoms. It came in black and navy and was slightly longer than is conventional. I wanted it!

TheDisreputableDog · 03/12/2016 08:29

I like Warehouse, their suits tend to go into the sale too. Not always a lot of choice but worth keeping an eye on

TronaldDump · 03/12/2016 08:33

Hobbs - decent quality and nice cuts. Although as OCSock says I'm moving towards nice coordinating separates now, unless a suit is really nice it can feel a bit too 'uniform'.

TronaldDump · 03/12/2016 08:36

MeadowHay In your position I'd consider maybe looking on eBay for a really nice jacket (maybe boucle?) to wear with a plain skirt and see if you can pick up a nice silk shirt or decent top somewhere? There's definitely a big quality gap in high st suits and you end up paying more than the sum of their parts.

Lucked · 03/12/2016 08:39

I don't think I would buy a suit again, I prefer coordinated separates like OCsock
