Calling Dr Marten fans...tips for pulling off the Dr Martens and dress look please

I have ordered a classic pair in the back Friday sale, 8 lace holes...I am slightly worried as I have size 7 feet and fairly slim legs. Any tips for wearing them with dresses would be lovely.

Opaque tights, above the knee dress hem, cardie. I don't know how else one would do it

Put tights or socks on. Put leggings on if needed. Put boots on.
Put bra/vest/dress on. Add cardi if chilly. A coat aids this when outdoors.
Go out.

It's a good look and an easy look to pull off. Just add opaques and dress. May need socks with the Docs whilst you wear them in. I sometimes wear ankle socks that show just above the Docs. Dress should be above the knee.

theres no tips. Just wear them with a dress. Its easy to pull off

With a tube or pencil skirt, opaques and sometimes a fitted jacket i.e. the rest of the outfit is quite conservative. I used to like them with a vintage dress but I don't suit that look any more

I've had my current pair 25 years and I keep eyeing up the original Made in England range.... I'd justify it on the basis that they'd probably last me the rest of my life.

Floisme I think for £160 you can buy a pair that actually come with a lifetime guarantee , I thought that was pretty good value.

I do this all the time! Never really grew out of the grunge era, I can assure you I am nowhere near 19!!!

I do the black tights, dress, slouchy cardi sort of thing. I work with kids and constantly get told I look cool ha ha!!

Go for it, but be prepared to weep real tears over the pain of breaking in the boots.....

I lace them further up to the top with dresses than I would do with jeans, with them I leave the top few undone. That's about it. Size 7 feet here too and skinny calves.

I always leave the top two eyelets unlaced. I thought that was The Law!

Also far from 19. I must admit I was a bit when DD (16) also with size 6 feet started borrowing them. But got her her own pair and then carried on regardless!

I've been stomping around with that look since 1995..... and I'm still wearing those same DMS.
I was a lot skinnier then but still had the size 7 feet.
My mum calls it the 'mildred hubble' look.

I like to throw a huge ancient bobbly cardigan, probably not matching the dress, over the top to complete the look.
I only do up four of the holes and wear big socks scrunched down as far as possible over my tights.

I'm wearing mine right now! With skinnies tucked in, a black top, black and navy cardi and big hair. They're black 8-eyelets in Virginia leather which is lovely and soft so "only" took 2 weeks to break in. I've just had some delivered this morning in Charro Brando leather which is a chestnutty colour.

Anyway, I'd wear with a skater dress, black opaques and some chunky socks peeking out of the tops.

How on earth do you keep yours so long??? I get a year and a half tops with mine. I am very heavy on my feet though and walk everywhere.

Can't wait til after Christmas so I can stop spending money on other people and get a new pair.

I have no idea Admittedly I don't wear them as often as I used to but I'm normally really heavy on boots and shoes.

It's why, if I do replace them, I'll check out the collection from the Northampton factory. It's partly to do with the heritage and knowing where they've been made but also because I'm sure the originals were better quality.

No way could I have afforded them at 19!

I got free Dr Martens socks with my order- helpful for wearing in stage!

However, I bought heeled shoes, so it doesn't really work- still love the socks though.

I wear my (purple) boots with grey skinnies or black opaque tights and a skirt. The skirts have got longer as I've got older- but it's the same look as when I was 18.

DMs are easy to break in if you wear tights with them...I've never had any pain that way.

Just wear them together! (Disclaimer, I'm too poor to afford Docs, I have bog standard combat boots that I got off Amazon but I love them. I've wanted some since I was 15 and have only just got around to getting some this year.)
Anyway, my church outfit on Sunday was my lacy grey dress (that I got from Bon Marche of all places, but I love it, it's pretty and delicate and I feel like a princess whenever I wear it) purple knee high socks and my boots, which are black so go with everything.
Two of my favourite singers, Amy Lee and Sharon den Adel are experts at wearing pretty dresses or skirt/corset combos with stompy boots.

They are great, but took forever to break them in - they still look brand new after two years of wearing them. My last pair bought in early 90's got lost in a house move.

They are expensive, but I don't think they'll ever fall apart. The made in Thailand ones are supposed to be crap (fall to bits after 4 - 5 years).

I love my DMs. Cherry red 10 holes i have had for 25 years, but have built quite the collection in the last few years. Opaques, oversized cardi, is the way to go.
