Cool dress to wear at the Aqua Shard

Anyone got any good dress suggestions for a meal at the Shard? It's my 30th I'm 5 4" a size 10-12 depending on the shop, boobs are large but figure is ok I'd like to look cool/sexy but not trashy...my budget is £150 but will probably need shoes. I tend to dress to old for my age so want to look modern if that makes sense but still quite classic. I quite like this dress Dress1 and this one Dress2 any of you stylish people fancy giving me an opinion or a better option? Also what should I accessorise with?

I like them both. Dress 2 looks younger and more 'evening'. Maybe target shops that have that cool 'vibe'
Reiss? whistles? Cos?

AmIImaginingThis · 27/11/2016 11:55

I find them both a bit "old" for 30, sorry. Neither are cool if that's what you're going for.

katystar · 27/11/2016 12:19

Any other ideas Reiss has some nice ones but to expensive. I'm not very good at what is cool or to old!

That second dress is lovely and perfect for the venue. I've been there quite a few times and there is a real mix of dress types as some people come from work so possibly don't overdo it

Happy birthday Flowers

This is fab! A bit over budget but gorgeous

I like your 2nd Mango choice. Warehouse is definitely aimed at someone much older than you. Reiss dress would probably not be great with big boobs. I agree about people wearing a real mix - over-eveningy dresses quite often look a bit like you don't get out much or are not comfortable in posh places (says the much older woman who doesn't get out much).

Lipsy234 · 27/11/2016 14:55

Dress 2 for sure.

I've never considered Warehouse as somewhere aimed at women 'much older' than 30.

Rustythedog · 27/11/2016 15:55

I didn't think Warehouse is aimed at older women either. But now that I have stopped to think about it, I think you are right. I buy more there these days and I am forty one. I just have never considered myself to be old :-) Very often I wear Warehouse clothes a couple of times before thinking they are dull. I think some of their occasion dresses are very pretty and dressy though! I like the WH midi dress linked above though generally think halter/thin straps are not flattering for larger chests.

Somebody above mentioned Cos which I think is definitely aimed at older women (I am a big fan).

What about some coated jeans and heels OP? Or a leather midi skirt with heells or ankle boots? Topshop had gorgeous burgundy leather boots called fringe loafer style. I think that is a great look and can be very sexy. I saw an inexpensive (fake) leather burgundy midi online last night and thought it was beautiful but just can't remember where it was from.... somebody else might know?

The Oasis dress posted by Celtic is by far the best IMO!

vintagechick43 · 27/11/2016 17:10

Out of your dresses I preferred no 2, but my absolute favourite is the Ted Baker one .

katystar · 27/11/2016 17:23

I really like the oasis and ted baker dresses but never wear patterns so may have to order and have a look! Burgundy leather look skirts sends good...I have an above the knee black leather skirt but never really know what to wear it with so if anyone can find a nice top/shoes or boots and link? I really feel I dress to old but I like classic clothes and find it tough to be cool and not to old looking, it's not helpful I look really young for my age so I think it makes it worse.

I do have very narrow shoulders so tend to get away with thin straps and a strapless bra look. Thanks everyone

That is the skirt I was referring to OP. I think it is fab. I'm a similar size and shape to you but I don't have any waist since having my second child.

I'd wear that skirt with a black polo tucked inside or a sheer long sleeved shirt for dressier occasions. I'd try to make it look cool with sock boots or very high heels.

katystar · 27/11/2016 19:34

It is lovely! I can't do polo necks as my boobs just don't look right! What sort of boots? Off to google shirts that may go!

Use Pinterest or use google images for midi leather skirts for ideas on how to wear them OP.

Prince Harry's Canadian girlfriend Megan something whose name escapes me, wore a leather midi to some event. I can't link as on my phone. She looked both classy and sexy.

imjessie · 27/11/2016 21:19

I've just bought a leather mini Ans will wear with a lace shirt thingy And ankle boots with black tights . Would that work for you ?

katystar · 28/11/2016 18:37

So Ive decided on this top m.asos.com/love-triangle/love-triangle-embroidered-mesh-bodysuit/prd/7296507?iid=7296507&clr=Black&cid=11323&pgesize=50&pge=0&totalstyles=365&gridsize=2&gridrow=10&gridcolumn=2 and the warehouse skirt! I'm buying a body skimming bodysuit to go underneath as I'm not brave enough to just wear a bra! Any thoughts on shoes? I'm short and need a heel due to the skirt length.

OP posts:
polyhymnia · 28/11/2016 22:47

Like the skirt. Not sure about the top as I generally think it's better to go for understated cool and style in London restaurants, rather than an obvious 'evening out ' look. But maybe it looks a lot more that way with a bodysuit underneath.
