Help! Turning 40 tomorrow and have no dress for my party on Friday

I am suddenly feeling my age. Haven't bought anything new in years while I've been having babies. Now it seems that style has passed me by and I don't know where to get something nice. I'm thinking something to the knee, short sleeves or sleeveless, like colour rather than black. I'm about a size 11 (in denial) and small chest. 5ft 6. Nothing too low cleavage wise. Feel I've seen everything high street online. Quality seems rubbish on anything I've tried. Not into 50s etc...like lace and fitted dresses...not bodycon. Any ideas please?

Me too. But am 46 and everyone I work with is about 27... Don't want to look like mutton. I have looked at about a billion dresses online. Oasis dresses are nice. And Debenhams and Asos have millions of em. Just need to cover my arms, mum tum etc. etc...

Hush Eleanor? £££ though, but you are only 40 once!!

Balsamicpearls · 22/11/2016 18:39

Oh thank you. Really should have said max budget is £100. Yes it's avoiding the mutton look and too much skin. But then the more grown up stuff feels boring...

Similar dilemma here. Happy birthday by the way! My 40th is next week. Smile

I've gone for pleather black leggings, long silky cami ( mines black but a punk or sequinned one would be beautiful), heels and a cropped tuxedo jacket (£59 from monsoon).

Any good? Bit of flesh but not too much, and hoping for insouciant chic.

I'm 5'6," and a size 11 too

missfliss · 22/11/2016 20:53

That's pale pink not punk ( although that could be fun too!) ^

Try Jolie Moi from House of Fraser, loads of styles and colours, usually around £50.

Right, I've cracked it! I bought this today...
www.oasis-stores.com/gb/clothing/dresses/the-lace-dress/059489.html?dwvar_059489_color=01&position=125&cgid=dresses#page=11&start=125&categoryID=dresses

Looks OK! Planning to wear with nude tights and heels and a black short bolero cardy thing (the last aspect probably shows my age!)

nilbyname · 24/11/2016 21:08

I tired this jumper on today and it's so so nice, slim fitting, not too sparkly. Would look great with-
Blue distressed denim jeans a black heels
Leather mini or midi skirt
Pleated midi skirt
Skinny trousers and heels
I want it in black and the rose gold.

From next and £46

Slinky black jumpsuit - super flattering. I had just had a baby before my 40th last year (2.5 months before) and was a wobbly/saggy size 10, am 5'5'' and it felt great. Happy birthday!
