Interview what to wear when own no business wear?

user09854784368 · 15/11/2016 19:45

I have I interviewed tomorrow at 9.30am (only found out at 5pm) for the perfect job, 2 days a week local etc.

I haven't worked in a office that needed smart clothes for years (before I had kids) so own nothing

I possibly have a navy dress but worry it's s not to bodycon/short

Could I get away with skinny black jeans, boots and a shirt?

Depends how casual the dress code is. Is there a Matalan near you where you could maybe get a black 'officey' skirt or trousers? Assuming finances allow. Sure you would use them in work.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 15/11/2016 20:40

Not jeans, no. Do you have any other trousers? Skirt? I have a couple of dresses for meetings, just plain wrap dresses. Anything like that?

ZoFloMoFo · 15/11/2016 20:40

I'd go with the dress and black tights rather than jeans.

Or nip out to Asda/Tesco first thing in the morning and buy some trousers or a skirt.

Shockers · 15/11/2016 20:41

Have you got anything slightly dressier which you could de-glam with a buttoned cardigan or something?

leccybill · 15/11/2016 20:42

Def not jeans.
Do you have any other trousers? Or any not-too-short skirt with black tights and heels.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/11/2016 20:44

Can you nip out to a 24 hour supermarket?

nilbyname · 15/11/2016 20:51

Not jeans....

Can you wear your dress as a tunic with leggings and blazer or cardigan?

Congratulations on the interview, fingers crossed for you!

user09854784368 · 15/11/2016 21:16

No chance of popping out I have the 4 kids

Found 2 dresses in depth of wardrobe first one may be bit much but possibly could get away with skater dress with tights and cardi.... everything is just that bit shorter on me as I have long legs

I think the skater dress with black tights and black shoes will distract from it being short. A cardi will make it demure. Do you have a coloured cardi to break up all the black?

OutToGetYou · 15/11/2016 21:22

Skater dress is better, will look more demure with opaque tights.

KatherinaMinola · 15/11/2016 21:22

The skater dress with black opaque tights and flat shoes if you have them. Also a cardi.

user09854784368 · 15/11/2016 21:25

I know I def have tan dolly shoes (will that work with black tights Confused) not sure if I kept my black ones or binned when I decided it was to cold to wear them, dd might have some under her trainers I could use

OP posts:
Ladybirdbookworm · 15/11/2016 21:31

I think tan dolly shoes would be fine

I'd like a pair of legs like yours !!!

Good luck for tomorrow

user09854784368 · 15/11/2016 21:46

Thanks everyone it's a large company but no idea how smart it is (will suss it out tomorrow) then I will be able to go out and buy some new things if I get the job, perfect for me 2 days a week and only down the rad so fingers crossed

OP posts:
leccybill · 15/11/2016 21:59

Best of luck.
Even if it looks fairly casual, always best to go formal for an interview.

Bluntness100 · 15/11/2016 22:02

Do uou not have plain black shoes? Tan shoes and black tights I seldom think is a good look sorry and not for an interview. Plain black shoes would be better, court or flat,

panad317 · 15/11/2016 22:11

Wow, 4 kids! You look amazing!! Whichever dress you feel more confident in, with black tights and those heels. Good luck with the interview!

SpaceDinosaur · 15/11/2016 22:15

If you don't know the company dress policy google the fuck out of them tonight!!! I always ask interviewees what they know about the company. If they say "not much" they're fighting a losing battle with me from which they seldom recover. I know what they can find with 2 minutes on the website so imagine what you can can learn a lot from 5 minutes on the website!!! even if it's not strictly relevant to the role you're applying for!

user09854784368 · 15/11/2016 22:41

Have taken a good look around the website but no giving much away in regards to how smart the offices maybe, it's a landscape service, estate management and play space service provider to the public and private sector. All pictures online seem to be workers in high bid and hard hats

Poocatcherchampion · 16/11/2016 08:53

Good luck good luck - you will look great.

What is the role?

Shockers · 16/11/2016 14:51

How'd you get on OP?

user09854784368 · 16/11/2016 23:16

Interview went well I think and will hear tomorrow.

As for dress code it will just be smart/ casual even jeans ok if stick to black so that's handy won't have to rush out and buy a new wardrobe

Will let you all know tomorrow how it goes

OP posts:
SpaceDinosaur · 17/11/2016 18:34

Have you heard?
Glad it went well!
