What shoes do we all wear with our pleated midis?

I have not a clue. I have just bought a smarts up, animal print one. I wanted it to wear to work with opaque, black tights and flats (patent, ballet pumps with no bow) but it just looked frumpy.

I need to wear low heels or flats, what can I do?!

What about a kitten heel?

Armbags · 21/10/2016 19:47

Chelsea boots

ILoveMyMonkey · 21/10/2016 19:48

Patent laced brogues here, with black opaque tights.

Low heeled ankle boots?

imjessie · 21/10/2016 19:57

My friend had a lovely leopard print one and she wore it with Pointed heels that sort of strapped up her leg .. it looked fab !

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/10/2016 19:58

I wore mine the other day with a black turtleneck, opaques and black Stan Smiths - I'm on holiday this week though and appreciate that wouldn't work for work.

I have a new pleated midi skirt hanging unworn in my wardrobe for this very reason - can't work out the footwear! I think I need some "high" ankle boots (i.e. ones that go above the ankle, not high-heeled) but I can't find any.

All the fashion bloggers look so cool in their trainers, but I'm not convinced they would work for me.

imjessie · 22/10/2016 09:33

Have a look ok Pinterest .. it's my go to for any 'looks'

imjessie · 22/10/2016 09:34

Yep .. I just looked .. loads of ideas ! Type in pleated skirts .

I have some ankle boots a lot like these ones that I am wearing with midi skirts, also these Kurt geiger loafers

polyhymnia · 22/10/2016 14:34

Love the KGloafers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2016 14:36

I like this sort of shape boots.

Floisme · 22/10/2016 15:01

Well, I hauled my lovely skirt out of the wardrobe this morning and had a try-on, parading in front of fashion jury (DH and teen DDs) for their honest opinions. These are the conclusions of the Chateau Cointreau jury:

Looked lovely with heels or high sandals, but that's not practical for everyday, which is what I'm after. This is the look that is all over Pinterest.

Looked OK with mid-heel ankle boots (mine are similar shape to the ones Remus linked to). I still think ones higher up the leg would be better, though.

Looked frumpsville with ballet flats or loafers. This might be OK if one weren't pushing 50.....

Also looked frumpsville when I added black opaques to the ankle boots!

The winner, to my surprise, was actually trainers (mine are black and white). Looked quite cool. Again, no tights....which means this is not a mid-winter option.

DH hates the skirt, though. Grin

Floisme · 22/10/2016 18:28

Mine looks great, just as long as I only walk backwards. Rear view is not pretty.

Silverstreaks · 22/10/2016 18:38

I'm wearing these brogue boots with a murky green pleather skirt and a chunky rust jumper.

Knee length ochre boots and a fine mustard jumper look alright too.

I've been wearing a pink velvet pleated one from TS with black DMs and tan brogue boots like these www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+boots/f0gae/harriet+jodhpur+boot.htm?categoryref=%2fcategory.aspx%3fcategoryid%3dwomens%2520boots%26seoterm%3dwomens%2520boots%26&pcat=womens+boots&adimage=&clr=F0GAE_Black
And also trainers, of course

RonSwansonsBestFriend · 22/10/2016 22:26

Thanks for all the replies, seems that footwear is an ishoooooo!

I'm thinking d'orsay flats? I think the toe has to be pointed, if flat (I did try it with rounded toes, not a good look).

CointreauVersial · 22/10/2016 23:28

Yes, pointed flats might work - not an option for my wide feet, alas.

Florathefern · 22/10/2016 23:48

Silver I love the Fly boots you posted.....can I ask where you bought them? I can't see them on the Fly website.

dudsville · 23/10/2016 07:05

Ha ha, I had one over summer that was great with summer tops and sandals but it looks frumpsville with tights and shoes!

Silverstreaks · 23/10/2016 09:20

Flora I got them from amazon. Lots of different colours. They are really comfy but I have to keep spraying them as they are not waterproof at all.

CointreauVersial · 23/10/2016 12:52

Well now, I had a brainwave last night (sad what occupies my mind on a boring Saturday evening). When I did I Pinterest search for "pleated midi skirt ankle boots" most of the pics that came up showed boots that extended above the ankle, slim-fitting around the leg. This initially sparked a search for high ankle boots/sock boots, or whatever they're called.

But on closer inspection, some people are wearing standard ankle boots but with black socks showing over the top. I can do this! So I tried on my skirt with my trusty Top Shop Mightys with a pair of DH's black socks underneath - looks great! Grin Just need to buy myself some decent black socks now....

leedy · 23/10/2016 13:01

I wear biker boots with mine.
