Chanel Make-up

This seems to get mentioned a lot on here, especially in relation to good-quality luxury make-up.

I've never tried it. I was always too scared to go to the counter in case I broke something and couldn't afford to pay for it! I have a bit more disposable income now... so I am considering giving them a go.

Any tips?

Thank you Smile any excuse to buy more Chanel! I use ELDW to cover the freckles over the summer as they're barely visible throughout winter so I could maybe get away with a Chanel foundation woohoo!

I love the Le Volume mascara. I've tried dozens of different mascaras, but it's just the best.

They did a limited edition rouge noir one last Christmas which was a beautiful colour for daytime.
I have the dark blue one for everyday - makes green eyes look brighter - and the black for nights out.

Do Chanel test on animals?

botemp · 15/10/2016 10:43

Nope not made by the same people, Bourjois is with Coty but used to be owned by Chanel (or their parent company). I believe there was talk of merging or Coty being sold again though so I've lost track.

At some point a factory made two different products for both companies and that's when the rumours started but I believe it's not as true as it used to be that Bourjois is a direct dupe/almost the same products as Chanel.

botemp · 15/10/2016 10:45

MythicalChicken they sell their products in China, which by law mandates animal testing on all imported cosmetics, so not in development but they do animal test where it is required (a position many global brands take while still claiming to be cruelty free). In short, unfortunately yes.

I love the Chanel eyeshadow quads and blushers, and lipsticks....most of the range then! Ha ha. The eyeshadow quads can be a little harder to work with but they are totally worth it. If you buy good brushes then they are a breeze. Bourjois own Chanel, that's why sometimes they can appear similar.

Yeah, Perfection Lumiere might be the lighter (relatively) version of ELDW :)

PETRONELLAS · 15/10/2016 10:57

...if only they still did Pro Lumiere...I still feel annoyed they would just stop making something so popular. I have a lot of Chanel. The packaging is great, but I don't think the concealers/blusters/eyeshadows are worth the cost. Love the eyeshadow colours though.

I have big collection of Chanel lipsticks. They are great and very easy to wear, but the Rouge Allure packaging is fragile - I've broken several. These days, I buy my lipsticks from Kiko (their more expensive ones / special edition ones) and they are just as nice as Chanel and Nars for a fraction of the price.

Chanel eye shadow is meh, and their foundations have never suited me - their shade range is limited and too dark or too yellow for my skin tone.

I also love Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum, but Korean alternatives work just as well.

NameChanged38a · 15/10/2016 11:29

Best foundations for me are the Japanese ones :)

SuperFlyHigh · 15/10/2016 11:59

I've tried it all...

Foundation vitalumiere and I think aqualumiere (the one in the compact) are bloody expensive for what they are. I also don't think the colour or luminosity is as great as with other brands.

I have some nice eyeshadows, which are in a quad but rarely use them, much prefer the Dior quads/palettes.

Navy mascara is nice but expensive.

I did have one lipstick I liked but that's it!

Their soleil radiance cream will be the only product I buy from there in the future!

SallyR0se · 15/10/2016 12:07

Yes, Chanel test on animals as far as I'm aware. Made in Neuilly, France. Bourgois used to be there too, but as another poster said they've moved.

FrustratedFrugal · 15/10/2016 12:15

I love the discontinued Chanel Narcisse blusher as well - and still have about one half of it left! Might use it up this winter. Have also used Bourjois Rose d'Or.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 15/10/2016 12:22

I love the Rouge Coco Shine, the slimmer tubes.

BusterGonad · 15/10/2016 12:33

Chanel blusher in Pink Explosion.Wink

KatharinaRosalie · 15/10/2016 12:47

My all time favourite product is the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Fluid. The one in the tube, not the foundation. And of course they have discontinued it. If anybody has found something similar, please let me know, I can't live without it.

SuperFlyHigh · 15/10/2016 15:31

Actually tell a lie at duty free I bought a limited edition sheer/clear red polish, that is very nice! Smile
