Lilac! In search of lilac items for baby... esp cot bumper and bouncy chair... any hope?

Hello style advisors,

Desperate to find items in lilac for my new baby. Checked all the usual suspects (Mothercare, BabiesRUs, Blooming Marv, Jojo Maman Bebe, Vertbaudet, even Woolies...) and no luck thus far!

Surely it can't be that hard to find a nice cot bumper, bouncy chair, and a few other bits in lilac??

any help much appreciated!!

well, you could buy a white bumper and dye it? Or white might look nice against all the lilac - have lilac and white theme? I am just about to look for cot bumpers now, purples included so will link any I find.

Lollipop Lane 's Cute As A Button is a bit lilac, also their Lollipop Farm...

this is IMO quite revolting, but does come in lilac...

MrsBadger · 07/02/2007 15:15

The Eeyore stuff from Argos is a bit lilac too - bumper , curtains etc , quilt , sheets

notsolilKel · 07/02/2007 15:16

Mrs B, revolting, yes, but suggestions very much appreciated anyway!

Here's my dilemma. I have a DS whose room is painted sky blue with white trim. Furniture is white wood with beech detail. Bedding and curtains are white with lilac/white pinstripe detail. His sheets and blankets are blue, lilac or white.

We're moving baby 2 (probably DD) into his room in summertime. I'd like to put the new baby into DS' existing cot, using the white/lilac stuff for her. Trouble is the cot bumper I have from DS has total boy stuff on it and lots of blue. I'd like just a white/lilac bumper.

DS will move into a cotbed or toddler bed with blue/white stuff.

Oh and the bouncy chair in lilac just because I like the colour!

Are you handy with a sewing machine or know anyone that is? I would imagine it would be quite easy to run up a cot bumper in your choice of fabric using the one you already have as a pattern

MrsBadger · 07/02/2007 15:19

Ah, I see what you're driving at.

I am cheap and lazy and would get plain white (or as near as) stuff - maybe broderie anglais if you want to be girly.

Bouncy chair I must confess I'd use whatever I could cadge from friends / buy at NCT sales / get cheap in Argos etc... and then put a sheepskin on it so you don't see the colour .

AuldAlliance · 07/02/2007 17:08

this (scroll down to second from bottom) says it has lilac tones. Not sure if you're after teddy bears(!), though...

AuldAlliance · 07/02/2007 17:10

Or there's
this one . Lilac seems to go hand in hand with animals and cuddly toys, not sure why.

10weeksandcounting · 07/02/2007 17:12

visit www.babyangels.co.uk - they have lilac bedding, curtains etc etc - reasonably priced too.

MrsBadger · 07/02/2007 18:12

oh, the Tadpole Basics gingham stuff from BabyAngels is def the best so far.

will keep my eyes open...

MrsBadger · 07/02/2007 18:14

(lovely cushions too)

10weeksandcounting · 07/02/2007 19:54

They do lilac nappy stackers aswell under changing.

cjmummy · 07/02/2007 19:59

there is a lilac cot toy at Early Learning called Blossom Farm Night Time Glow Lavender Lamb - not sure if that is any good for you!

notsolilKel · 07/02/2007 21:17

major advance here, just learned about this site - purple store . I think the lilac gingham bumper will fit into my blue & lilac/white stripe theme very nicely! OH, I'm sooo excited now.

Except. Except it could be a very boring, ungirl-friendly room. Imagine it: sky blue walls, white furniture, curtains in white with lilac/white stripe border detail, one white cot in blue&white, one white cot in lilac&white gingham... do you see a little girl in this room anywhere?

Soooo I can't help contemplating this option from good old Babies R Us: ridiculously girly but still a bit of lilac in...

GAHHHHHHHhhhhhhhh

pmsl at 'un-girl friendly'!
it's not set in stone that they have to be swathed in pink and purple you know...

(NB that bumper in the Purplestore is exactly the same as the Baby Angels one)

hana · 07/02/2007 21:38

we did dd's room up in bright turquoise before she was born, didn't know sex, and it's been a fab colour.
she's now 5 qand wants a pink room
knew it would get to me sooner or later!!
with fairies and princess wallpaper...etc etc etc

hollyandalice · 07/02/2007 21:53

Hello there, just saw your thread! Mamas & Papas used to do a range called Meow which is lilac with cats on. You can get it all brand new and really cheap from ebay. Also the Next Hush range has some lilac in. On the website the bumper looks pink, but I have it and it is definately more lilac. This has some lilac in too. Sorry can't be more use!! If I find anything I'll let you know. Happy Birthday!!!

notsolilKel · 08/02/2007 11:39

MrsBadger, funny, because i checked all over the babystore for the bumper and didn't see it!! Just quilt in the gingham...must go back and hunt around there again. It'd be much easier to get it from the uk than the US. Glad to know we're on the same wavelength after all

re pink or not to pink - well I guess I'm just living out my fantasies after a year of little boy blue stuff for DS. I'd always see such adorable things for girls whilst looking for DS - such crap for boys IMHO!!!

thx also H&A good to see you here (HUG) x

sorry babyangels not babystore...found it...but it's £45 as opposed to $40 (about £20!) . Think I might get it in the US on my nxt trip there instead!

Maybe you could buy some of this fabric (or similar)and get someone to make a bumper for you!! It would be expensive, but oh so worth it!
Hope you've had a good day !

notsolilKel · 08/02/2007 19:30

Oh Holly, stop it with the Cath stuff!!

My secret dream is to have a lovely girly bed done up in a white fabric with little roses or peonies on it - sigh - alas, it's got to be lilac for now. And no flowers. Boo...

In the next house, it's going to be full of pillows and flowers!!

Why do you need cot bumper? They are not recommended for new babies. Save your cash and buy yourself something nice for when the baby comes.

notsolilKel · 10/02/2007 14:45

I've seen DS stick his arm or foot out through the bars, and quite frankly it's something I'd like to prevent till he's old enough to pull his arms back in himself. Why are bumpers not recommended?
