So, what does one wear for a meet up with a millionaire?

Not quite so Jilly Cooper as it sounds. I'm meeting up with my oldest friend (who for many reasons I lost touch with for over 30 years) in London soon. He has done very well for himself (in the beauty field) and looks amazing for his age. I on the other hand have not. I'm fat, wrinkly and look awful. I think we'll be going out for a posh dinner, I've got a decent dress, but it's the day time. Not sure yet, there may be lunch, there may be drinks, there may be shopping. And Ive got to travel down on the train. I want to look stylish, polished but be comfortable.(no heels). Oh and there's no romantic undertones, I'm firmly married and he's firmly gay.
Help me oh stylish ones.

Because no matter how much you think you've changed, and come to that he'll think he's changed, you'll both think the other looks exactly the same.

Sounds like a brilliant arrangement for safe flirting, btw, so you need a push-the-boat out version of whatever made you feel fabulous then.

Ok well can you get your hair done prior to the day cause that often makes people feel a bit more groomed. Get nails done if that would help. Other than that what kind of shops do you like, even if you don't have much opportunity to shop. What is your best dress like.... Maybe post a photo of it so we can see what you like.

I'd wear what I'd normally wear, so I woul look and feel relaxed, and not self conscious or uncomfortable.

I think looking too "done" can be ageing.

I'd wear skinnies, nice top and trusted old leather jacket and comfy shoes. I'd make a bit of effort with hair (ie wash it ) and a bit of make up, but that's it.

Just look your best. Several of my friends have done very well and the ones I'm still in contact with are my friends, and don't judge me on how I look. But you'll feel better if you know you are looking your best, but as you, not as how you think a millionaire's friend should dress.

You want to wear something that looks expensive (note: different from actually being expensive!).

So, monochrome - tres chic - or a simple pattern/block colours. Avoid blousy or ditsy prints. Your best bet would be something beautifully/interestingly cut that fits you perfectly

I am tall and generally slim with narrow shoulders and great legs but a bit of a tum/love handles so for e.g. I would go for a lovely white shirt I have that fits me very well. It's cut so it fits around the collar/shoulders/sleeves and then is shaped like a swing dress so flares out to about bum length. It's lovely crisp cotton so the shape tools really interesting but also flattering. I would wear it done right up to the collar (a little bit fashiony I think?) with great fitting straight/skinny jeans and Chelsea boots, sleek but not overly 'done' hair, and understated makeup.

Ahh Chicky, I'm one of those women who can reduce a crisp white shirt to a dishcloth in seconds.
It's not really about him judging me, more like fitting in in a smart bar/hotel/restaurant. Ive got a lovely smart red crepe dress that I think I'll wear for dinner. I'm thinking of black trousers, top, Chelsea boots and a long knitted bronze biba jacket if that's too smart. Do you think that would be too flashy for the afternoon? I know it will travel well.
I'm going to have to make sure my skin is spot on as that's his field.(or like a wrinkled prune then he might give me a big sample box)

Both those outfits sound perfect, I second pp in getting your hair done too. Fwiw I am of the mindset that you can never be overdressed (with the obvious exceptions!) So for lunch, shopping and drinks in London those outfits sounds fab. Unless he has pizza express in mind

One of my oldest chums has also done well for himself, and tbh, he still wears much the same as ever. Jeans, chinos, whatever you look good and feel comfortable in, but err on the low key side, just the nicest version of it.
In his shoes, I would want to think I was catching up with an old friend for enjoyment, rather than spending time with some one who had altered into wanting freebies and attention.

Sounds like my DP's friend. If he is who I think he is, then the Biba bronze jacket outfit sounds perfect. Get your hair and nails done and you'll be good to go.

When we were teens he used to vet my outfits before a night out, I've been marched back into my bedroom many a time to get changed.
Haircut is booked for day before.

Pick the outfit you feel AMAZING in, then book hair and makeup to add even more glam! By feeling good about yourself you will glow!
