Tapered work trousers and winter footwear - help my cold ankles!

I have a number of pairs of navy and black tapered trousers for work which, in milder months, look lovely with pointy flats and heels whilst flashing a bit of ankle.

However, I live in Scotland and a naked ankle ceases to be fun or practical as October draws ever closer! What can I wear with tapered trousers in the cold? It's all very well to think of lovely brogues etc. but they leave my poor ankles freezing! Would some kind of a be-socked ankle and brogues combo work? How about a boot of some kind?

Help me wise S&B people!

I wear flesh coloured pop socks and my pointy flats/heels until it gets freezing, then ditch work trousers and go for dresses with thick tights in the deepest of winter. Tapered trousers look naff with boots.

At this time of year I switch work attire to skirts/dresses and warm tights as I hate cold ankles. I also hate boots with trousers for work.

Trainwrecka: noooo slim tapered 7/8 with ankle boots are my entire look!!!
I wear footsie socks so there is still ankle on display but not much.
I like this look.
Ocassionally sparkly socks too.
I have to own this look otherwise I would freeze.

I have to say, when it gets really cold I move into longer trousers worn with boots. I quite like the wide leg / slouchy style. Or go for dresses with thick tights and boots.

Luckily for me, I only have to be outside for about 30 seconds between car and office, so I can tolerate a brief chill.
