Why can't I 'do' ankle boots? Advice please....

I think generally I dress ok and look reasonably stylish when I can be bothered to Grin

But I can't make ankle boots look right on me. I bought some lovely tan/brownish chelsea boots and have literally not worn them once because after looking at myself in the mirror I just take them off again.

I've tried them with skinny jeans that are really tight around my ankles; I've tried them with slightly looser ones turned up a bit - both ways I look like a golf club doing an impression of Max Whall. I've tried them with boyfriend jeans rolled up a bit and I just looked like a Dexy's Midnight Runners extra. What am I doing wrong?

I've read all the style blogs - most of which talk about the Chelsea Boot being the boot that suits everybody - everybody except me that is Confused.

I'm tall (5ft 10, size 12) and reasonably fit - my legs are fine until I put boots on it seems! Is it just me? This small and probably insignificant problem is driving me nuts!

It is because you have the wrong boot!

Tall leggy with big feet.... Chelsea boots don't work!

You need ankle boots that are not as wide and lumpy as chelsea boots.

A bit less gaping at the ankle, and maybe a bit of a heel.

The Pikolinos Brujas are a rare example of ankle boot that work for me, with skinnies tucked in, or even with a skirt/dress

Ooh baby I like the look of those! If I get them & they suit me I will love you forever. Can u only wear them skinnies? Do they work with other jeans?

Isn't having bare legs with boots kind of defeating the object, or am I just getting old?

If jeans / skinnies + Chelsea boots is all wrong, then (a) what do you wear with Chelsea boots and (b) what do you wear with jeans all winter?
I had just.decided to try and get a Chelsea boot that would be a winter staple and go with everything but looks like. I need to re think?

I'm sure they look good with jeans on some people - there are pics all over the net to prove the point! They just look wierd on me. Do you have big feet & skinny legs?

I am a bit weird with boots.i love what everyone else seems to hate and video centre versa, but I'd say, stay away from the Chelsea boot! There are other, chunkier ankle boots that look fab, or shoe boots that look good. Or sod the ankle boots and go for mid calf.

You have to wear them with trainer type socks that don't show and then show a smidge of ankle - and skinny legs.

Ankle boots with skirts/dresses just look awful on everyone . They give you a huge chunky blob at the end of your leg.

I've been looking for some mid-heeled ones since seeing Mila Kunis wearing a pair with rolled up skinny jeans in Bad Moms... until posters here pointed out that exposing two or three inches of flesh is not overly practical for winter. Damn sensible mners!

I never understand the boots with bare kegs and skirt thing. If it's hot enough for my legs to be out, it's way too hot for any kind of boots IMO.

I don't like showing skin. I have skinny ankles so wear black boot socks from primark that are ruched just above my boot and it looks better. Also still wear them when wearing tights and dresses.

I also am 5"9 and have size seven feet. It's the only way I don't look like I have clown feet and big skinny legs
