Tell it to me straight: Aveda products - Brilliant And Worth Every Penny or Expensive Rubbish?

I had my first Aveda hairdresser experience today.

Be Curly products were used, and guess what, I am all curly

So, if I were to dish out for that stuff, would I regret it??

Bodyshop Rainforest shampoo and conditioner is so pleasingly cheap...

Meh - I've never had a lot of joy with Aveda. Smells nice, but made no appreciable difference to my (limp, straight) hair.

Mine is more dry and straw-like porous so am forever looking for the magic moisturising product.

It's a long time ago but I too used to frequent an Aveda hairdresser and was never overly impressed by the suggested products. Can't remember what specifically I used but some shampoo and hair products and just remember it causing a lot of buildup and needing to see them a lot quicker than normal. Did like a weird custom oil perfume thingy though.

Nice lovely smelling by way overpriced. Just commented on another thread but I use wilko conditioner at 99p and basic gel from Tesco which is 25p.

I find expensive curly hair products are even worse than others because you have to use so much!

Much as that is a very distinctive look, it is NOT exactly what I am aiming for....

I am trying to move away from the 'witch-dragged-through-a-hedge-backwards' look.

Had the pure one whatever it's called, and the rosemary one, not a patch on Alberto Balsam tea tree tingle.

I used sham pure for 20 years and loved it, swapped to something else this year because my hair had changed, health related I think.

I found the Be Curly stuff that you put in before styling rubbish, not moisturising enough for me, I bet I bought it ten years ago and it is still in my bathroom, rubbish.

I liked the light blue pump bottle of serum, can't remember what that is called without looking! A couple of years ago my hairdresser used Orifluido serum without me knowing and the next time I went back I asked him. I rate the orifluido better then any of the Aveda stuff I have used.

I have afro curly hair (imagine whitney in the 80's). I have used Aveda be curly leave in product and it does define my curls but looks a bit matt and frizzy. Maybe serum on top would help? I tried the damage rescue conditioner and didn't really like it.

Be curly isn't curly girl method approved. It did nothing for me tbh.

I have to be honest, I am quite surprised by the unanimous opinion towards 'overpriced, overhyped meh product'.

Yes, I had noticed that British Curlies don't mention Be Curly and was wondering whether there are commercial or other interest behind that.

I don't have curly hair, but I really rate the Damage Repair shampoo and conditioner for dry hair, and have used Confixor as a styling product for years. The stuff is fairly pricey, but you on,y need a tiny bit compared with cheaper stuff. I go to an Aveda salon and like a lot of the products they use.

I don't have curly hair either but do rate their healthy balance (think that is the name) anti-dandruff shampoo. It smells much better than cheaper dandruff stuff.

It is lovely Pacific. I noticed a difference and asked What he had used. The £15 ish from memory bottle lasts me ten months and I use it on dd too. I buy it at Amazon.

have you tried not using shampoo very often?
I did it by mistake out of necessity on a holiday when I forgot to take shampoo. the bar of soap left my hair really tangled and frizzy, so I just rinsed it under the shower. for a week.
I still only use shampoo twice a week, makes a real difference to hair texture and shine.

I wash my hair at most twice a week

I'm now also looking at Palmer's co-wash - this thread has been very useful in more ways than one

oh and our shampoo if we don't forget it on holiday is dr organics olive oil one.

I tried aveda for dry damaged hair. Or was better than cheap stuff but not so much that I thought it was worth the price. I shopped around other pricier end stuff and found khiels to be The One for me.

Shampure range makes my hair look noticeably nicer than any other shampoo/conditioner I have tried. You can get travel sizes now I think if you wanted to try it cheaply - maybe on the Aveda website? It's worth the extra for me but obviously not for everyone.

Ps, my hair isn't damaged, just a lot more grey! Aveda did suggest I would be moving up to what they suggest for afro hair, so that might have been good, and they do offer a returns policy but I tried this by post and my parcel got lost so I never got my refund so I didn't go back to try the other product.

I used to buy 1ltr bottles of both sham pure shampoo and conditioner and it worked out as cheap as anything you would buy in Boots - am sure it was only £28 for a litre when I first started buying it .

I only wash my hair every 3rd or 4th day but have yet to embrace the curls tbh.

I was converted to Palmers CoWash a couple of months ago on another thread. I'm really happy with it. I've started using a quick-drying camping towel as a turban, and I just use the cheap Boots pink curl creme.

I cowash my hair every 3-4 days and use Avalon Organics Clarifying Shampoo about once a fortnight.

The whole routine is cheap & easy and I'm very pleased with the condition of my hair.

Hmmm not great for me. I bought the invati range for thinning hair- the set was around £100- and it did nothing. Not only that but it wasnt even decent shampoo or conditioner, smelled rank and left my hair lank.

Has anyone tried Daniel Field products for curly hair, I just stumbled across them while looking for a natural semi permanent dye.

I would love to see curly photos as I just can't embrace mine.

Do you have it cut with curls in mind?
