Avon. Is it just me

That thinks it's crap?!

A colleague started doing it a few months ago so I've ordered a few times and everything has been completely rubbish. Yet alot of people seem to like it?! Worst culprits of my orders so far:

Bb cream which looked the right shade when I applied it but then turned me shiny and orange an hour later

The promised "matter than mac" lipstick which I had to apply 20 times, complete false economy might as well pay extra for Mac and only apply once all night

Mineral foundation in their lightest shade ivory which looks like a bronzer on me

It seems like a false economy to me, you spend a fortune on stuff you don't end up using, so that you can support your friend...who then gets pennies in return? Better all round just to give the money straight to your friend

Another fan of Skin So Soft body oil here. Keen walker, who used to get 'eaten alive' by mosquitos and other misc. flying vultures. Skin So Soft and not bites at all. I do buy it on line, though, to avoid having to know any reps.

The skin so soft body oil is lovely. Not greasy.

I also like the automatic eyeliners.

I was a skin so soft fan until I discovered certain brands of deodorant contain the same ingredient that keeps the flys/gnats etc away, much more realistic for me to just grab that with my usual shop rather than order and wait around for it, all the makeup I have tried has ended in a nasty reaction so wont touch it now

I love some products. Their eyeliners, liquid and kohl are fantastic. Good colour and stay on. You can't beat the price either.
Other things like the lip sticks just don't seem to have that staying power. It's a case of finding what you like. You can send them back even used so that makes it good value as you can't do that in Boots if you don't like the shade you chose.

I heard that they no longer use whatever ingredient keeps flies away?

I like the nail varnish. I bought an eyeliner last year which went on well and looked good but gave me really itchy eyes.

Acorn, that's interesting - what's the ingredient / deodorants? We've run out of the Skin So Soft and deodorant is something we always need.

Avon pro polish is good. Wicked is a gorgeous colour and goes on v well.

The trouble with Avon is that a photo can never really take the place of sampling something in RL to determine if it's going to be suitable. And you have to buy it to find out.

DH gives me Confused looks when I'm sniffing the perfume pages Grin

I wouldn't bother buying bags, clothes, underwear etc.

The ingredient is citronella, mostly shown as citronellol on deodorants, i like the dove go fresh grapefruit and lemongrass scent one but really anything that is citric, my outdoor activity forced me to spend a lot of time researching this Blush

Over the original skin so soft still contains citronella

Someone I work with does it - I like the Skin So Soft bath oil, so I usually buy that & sometimes bubble bath if it's on sale.

The gel nail varnish is good.

They eyeliners and the argan oil hair products are great. Some of the bits and bobs are too (where else could you find a pineapple blackboard for £4?) but it's very variable abd the new clothes range often makes me Hmm

Phew! Have just dropped my catalogue and order off before reading this.
Have ordered gel nail varnish and a glimmerstick (plus kids sensitive bath stuff) so based on PP's I should be good Grin

You know you can buy citronella oil and pop a few drops of it into your Nivea tub or whatever. Or blob a bit on your skin direct if you're not sensitive. I drop about 10 drops into a smal baby oil bottle and rub into ankles/ arms. I've years of midges, klegs and effing horseflies experience.

Citronella oil can be dropped into your candles as well for outdoor dining etc. Or you can grow a plant near where you have your outdoor furniture, or in a pot.

The oil is in Holland and Barrett.

No experience of Avon!

Here's a link to the citronella oil for sale in Holland and Barrett

It will last years. Drop a few drops into shower gels, body lotions and candles. Neat oil can be applied on trouser cuffs and scarves / bandanas.

Well I love Avon and I like the tradition of waiting three weeks until my Avon Lady comes to the door. I've usually forgotten what I've ordered and it's like getting a present. In today's world of instant gratification, it's nice to have something to look forward to. You can also order online if you can't wait.

I'm sentimental about Avon because ever since I was little I had something from Avon at Christmas. My Nanna and my Mum always ordered stuff and I still love the bubble bath, perfume and moisturisers.

Madison I've got that but regard it as a room spray rather than body spray. I couldn't really smell the violets. I love the lavender one though. I always have a few in stock as they are so good. I have mild asthma and these room sprays are the only ones that don't "sit" on my chest.

Many of the perfumes are very good too. Avon Cherish smells like La Vie est Belle, Perceive Oasis is a longlasting rose/peony scent, Soft Musk is a classic Musk that was recently only £4.50. They also have purse sprays fro around £3 which is a great way of trying it first.

I'm not a rep, just a fan!

Hah I seem to have started something here! By the sounds of it I've had bad luck with the things I've ordered but I really have not been impressed! I agree that it is nice when it arrives and you've forgotten about it, it's just a shame the products aren't very good and they're not even particularly cheap.

MissBattleaxe, I always thought they were room and linen sprays but apparently they changed the descriptions to a body spritz too.

I miss my Avon lady. She used to come at bang on 6.15 on Monday nights, and I agree that you forget what you've ordered so it's a lovely surprise. She quit back in the Spring though. Ordering online isn't quite the same, not as convenient for delivery.

The Glimmersticks eyeliners are great as is the mascara in the orange packaging which looks a bit 1950s but remains the only mascara that actually stays on my eyelashes. I like the brow definer kit too and the nail varnishes. Not keen on toiletries though.

Skincare is good but overpriced, cheaper on ebay.

My mum swears the bras are great, has been buying them for over 10 years, but im nostslgic for avon more than anything as my mum and grandma loved it.
