I have dyed my hair red and I don't like it. Help me!

Home dyed my hair red. Done it a million times before.

Used a different brand because I preferred the colour (sort of a cherry red). Anyway. It's shit. Looks washed out and naff. For reference my hair was darkish brown before.

I am tempted to dye over it back to brown but that won't work will it? I don't want to go to the hairdressers because I am desperately trying to grow my hair out and she ALWAYS cuts too much off.

What can i do?

I have prev sort of stripped/lightened colour with head and shoulders but not sure whether that will rid me of the red tinge?

Or try a permanent red. I use L'Oreal Majicontrast Rouge. It's bright and has a bleaching agent in it so bleaching before isn't really necessary if done with a 6 or 9 percent peroxide

Colour B4 worked a treat for me when this happened - you can get it in Boots for about a tenner. Lots and lots of conditioner afterwards as your hair will feel a bit straw-like initially but mine was back to normal texture after a couple of days of heavy conditioning.

You can put a brown over it but only a chocolate brown with red tones. Otherwise it can react

Go for the hair dres sees for a colour correction, don't get it cut. Tell her you are there for a colour only.

Also Johnsons baby shampoo strips colour out so you could wash it a few times with that

Will try washing up liquid and baby shampoo. I would have thought that would be gentle?! Yikes! I use it on my 4 month old I feel I should reconsider that now!

Will prob re dye either red or choc brown then. I like my hair both those colours but this just looks sort of in between those colours and just a bit shit.

Out of interest, would purple shampoo make it less reddy or will that just make it worse?

Don't use colour b4! It will go orange, and when you attempt to dry over it it will end up very dark.

No, purple shampoo will do very little. A warm brown would be fine but keep in mind that brown home dyes come out much darker than you'd expect. Dark brown is almost black so go for a light or mid brown.

Or buy the red dye you liked in the past and stick that over the top.

Colour stripper is a gentler way of removing unwanted dye. It takes it back to the previous colour of your hair.

Xxl live red over the top of the colour already on! I swear by them ones I use the permanent red xxl and then get a bright pinky reddy colour to go over the top and it comes out bright red (my hair was dark brown)

Oh for crying out loud go to the hairdressers abd tell her you do not want cut, you pay for the service so it's fine to say that, do not mess around with colour at home. It'll go green/break off/look brassy if you keep messing with it.
