Frizzy hair around parting (with photo!)

My hair is pretty straight and it used to be nice and smooth, but recently I've got an awful 'halo' of frizzy hair around my parting and it's driving me mad. I've tried using serum and hairspray and nothing seems to work. The frizzy hair seems short so I'm not sure if it's new hair growing or (hopefully not) where my hair has snapped off?

Does anyone have any suggestions. It makes me feel so scruffy Sad here's a photo to show what I mean.

blow dry your hair pointing the hairdryer down and starting at the root. once dryed and styled soray your hands with hairspray and place themnon your roots and smooth them down the length. that should helpm

I've heard hairspray applied with a make up brush can help.

Agree it's new hair. I have it round the front and wear Elnett hairspray to keep it down.

I've tried hair spray and it really doesn't work. I use Elnett (just used it now and it still looks shit Sad). I've also got three different serums, two of which of that Frizz Ease brand, and none of them do anything. I'm wary about putting a lot of products on my roots and my hair is incredibly greasy anyway.

I have to wash and blow dry my hair in the evening as I don't have time to do it in the morning, so sleeping on it probably doesn't help either.

Do you think a deep conditioning treatment might help control the frizz?

Are you washing and blow drying every single night? That looks like heat damage to me.

you shouldnt put conditioner on your roots so it won't help. as you say it is either new or damaged hair (likely new as it looks like you just use normal dye if anything) so the problem isnt really frizz more that the hair is fly away as it is short and sparse.

have you tried using hairspray the way advised?

do you have a flat / paddle brush? if so it may be easier to spray that with the hair spray then brush from the root.

Violet yes I am. I blow dry at night then wave my hair with straighteners in the morning. I did wonder if it was heat damage. I have a big problem with greasiness and seriously can't get away with not washing daily. I've been on medication for it (Roaccutane as I had horrendous acne) which stopped my skin producing oils and I only had to wash twice a week, but since I've come off it the greasiness has been worse than ever. My Derm said there isn't anything they can do about it as I can't stay on that medication long term. I've tried not washing daily, and not washing for a whole week etc to try and train my hair but nothing works. I use Tigi resurrection shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair which was brilliant at first but my hair is just looking rubbish now Sad

Dry it with a slightly different parting and then once dry re part your hair to original place. if frizz is still there pat down with a small amount of gel or light hair oil - non greasy.

I only condition the lengths, never the roots. Tried a paddle brush with hair spray too.

I've noticed it's also really frizzy down the sides too. Not the greatest photo but I've attached one to show. The other photo is the frizz around my parting after hair spray. Sorry the lighting doesn't show it up very well but it looks worse in the flesh!

I don't dye it by the way, this is my natural colour.

I am in need of a good hair cut but not sure if it would even make a difference anyway.

Do you know what OP - it really isn't as bad or as noticeable as you think. I would try not to worry about it or fixate on it.

Thanks fudge. It's doesn't show up well on the photo but does look worse in real life! I am starting college tomorrow and I'm not feeling very confident about it and my shit hair is making it worse Shock

It's probably a hormonal problem if new hair growth is coarse and frizzy.

it looks fine in the new pics. i would put hairspray on paddle brush, brush your hair back and then into the parting.

do you use hair spray all over before styling with the straighteners? that will help protect hair from heat or a heat defense spray.

for the greaseiness have you tried loreal clay shampoo or herbal essenses 0%? theyve helped hugely with mine. i prefer the herbal essences one.

a trim will help the overall condition of your hair if its overdue.

there is a product i love called moroccanoil. its quite expensive but lasts ages. might be worth a try. they do anlight version too.

Thanks gingerbreadman. That Loreal clay shampoo is actually on my 'to-buy' list but I've got to finish off the Tigi stuff first Sad I bought the massive bottles! I might just swap over prematurely and save the rest of the Tigi for occasional use. Is the Herbal Essences the SLS free one? I did go SLS free for about half a year and it was great at first then I started getting the same problem again with my hair being all lank and frizzy. It's like my hair gets used to the shampoo/conditioner I use and it stops working, if that makes sense!

some people do have that problem. my friend does. yes the sls free one i think. i highly reccomend then herbal essences one.

i have read some people saying the clay one can make you loose more hair but i think its probably as you wash it less. i certainly didnt have any problems. maybe get small bottles at first to try.

im sure they do a pre-shampoo treatment as well which i didnt try but if your hair is really bad it is worth doing all three steps.

My hair does this when its humid. I have a natural waves and curls and my hair tends creep it's way up and out the way (if that makes any sense) when the weather is the way it has been the past few weeks. I've not found a way to stop it completely but I find using a good moisturising shampoo helps control it a little.

Is your hair also like this in the winter felix? If not I would bet it's a weather thing.

I get this and use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. Have you tried that one?

I put a small amount on when blow drying then a little on my finger tips and smooth down.

Interesting about the weather. I've never really had this problem that much before so it could well be the humidity at the moment. My hair feels really dry too.

Not tried the Paul Mitchell stuff but will look out for it next time I'm in boots thank you!

I've bought some of the Loreal clay shampoo and conditioner to try so will update after my shower tonight!

Tumble dryer sheets after drying work wonders on my frizz. Interesting smell but I'd choose the fragrance over frizz anyday.

Your hair just looks like normal hair to me. Surely only nylon hair a la Barbie lies completely flat?! And that only straight out of the box!
