What is your hair 'routine'?

Just pondering now that term has started again. Do you wash your hair at night and style in the morning, or wash and style in the morning? Or shave it all off so as to never have to spend another minute worrying about such trivia?!

I never really feel I get it right and generally end up with lack lustre hair... I suppose I'm really asking whether anyone has any words of wisdom for me in this?!

Shampoo and condition in the morning, every three days. Something nourishing rubbed into the lengths (currently Percy & Reed No Oil Hair Oil), rough dry with a hairdryer, then BBH. I don't bother with styling products - now my hair is starting to go grey it has a lot more volume than it used to! But needs more tlc.

Second day - bit of dry shampoo on fringe; third day - dry shampoo all over.

Where do I buy one of those turbi-towels? Sounds useful.

Wash. With wet hair walk dog. Take glasses off so I don't have to see it.

Wash when needed. Conditioner on for about 1 min and rinse off. Let it dry by itself. Brush when I have time.
Like user147... I take my glasses off so I don't have to see it if it's a mess.

So what is the best thing to do for mid length fine dead straight hair? (Shamelessly looking for tips).

olderthanyouthink · 06/09/2016 05:20

spiderpig & wasdat co-wash means conditioner-only washing. In the past I've gone over a year without using shampoo but now my hair gets greasy more.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 06/09/2016 06:45

Wash between once and twice a week and refresh every morning with water and conditioner. My hair is curly so it works better that way.

I prefer to wash in the morning as the refreshing takes almost as long to dry.

RedMapleLeaf · 06/09/2016 07:10

Short, coloured hair here.
Shampoo and condition every morning, dry with hairdryer and fingers and bit of expensive Bed Head product that I buy to please my hairdresser. Finish with wax (ditto). Hair cut every six weeks.

This thread is a revelation.

God, I really wish I had the energy some of you lot have. I'm a morning person but I hate showering in the morning, so I've never had a morning hair wash.

My routine was to co-wash once a week and wear it curly/wavy, but I just couldn't get my brush through it after a couple of days so would scrunch it up into a bun and leave it until the next hair wash. After reading the polished thread, I am changing my ways! So now I'm blow drying with a cheap version of the Big Hair after an evening hair wash - washing it about every 3-4 days. Luckily (sort of) I don't have naturally silky hair so the coarseness holds whatever shape I tell it to be in for days.

What are ppl's recommendations for a quick-drying hair towel/turban thingy? I've had a look on amazon but it seems a bit difficult getting one which isn't a complete rip off. I want one which really dries the hair before using the hairdryer.

I have fine, curly hair but lots of it, that's cut in a bob. I wash mine every day, and either rough dry the front then spray with sea salt spray and pin it up, or dry it and tong with 1 inch barrel tong, then spray with sea salt spray and ruffle for beachy waves. Less than 5 mins if it's going up, and about 20 if leaving down.

heron98 · 06/09/2016 15:55

I swim on my lunch hour four times a week so wash it after that, give it a 5 min blast with the dryer and tie it up.

GinAndOnIt · 06/09/2016 16:26

Your hair sounds lovely Fenella

ExConstance · 06/09/2016 16:39

No children to organise at home anymore, so I now have longer hair and usually was it most mornings, blow dry and put a couple of Velcro rollers in the top to give it more volume before running my fingers through it upside down to make it look as if no effort was involved.

allthecarbs · 06/09/2016 16:42

I wash every 5 days or so. The first few days after a wash I do loose plaits at night and then go through it with my waver on the morning. The last couple of days I do a quick up style Eg milkmaid plaits, half bun, simple pony etc.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/09/2016 16:43

Every other day unless it's really hot and sticky then I do it every day.

GinIsIn · 06/09/2016 17:29

Ah, thanks Gin! I actually had really long hair and lopped it all off to donate to Little Princess Trust so was a bit worried about the bob but loving it so far! Smile

NatureAbhorsAHoover · 06/09/2016 17:41

Fenella what a lovely thing to do.

I get a salon wash and blow dry once a week. That's it unless I'm exercising loads.

Hate washing and drying my hair!

GinAndOnIt · 06/09/2016 17:48

I hate washing and drying my hair too. I actually mope about on hair wash day dreading having to do it - I'm like a teenager! I find it very exhausting.

GinIsIn · 06/09/2016 18:17

Nature - I can't pretend I didn't cry and try to run away when the hairdresser got the scissors out!! Grin
