40th birthday, trip to theatre, staying in posh hotel, tell me what to wear!

Anyone fancy helping me out with this? It's me 40th soon (gah!) and DH and I are going to the theatre, basically. We will be staying in a reeeely posh hotel for the night too and I want to wear something POSH. I NEVER dress up really and want to really go for it for my 40th, will probably have hair and make up done because I never did this, even for my wedding, just did me own!

So I'm going for it but true to form, as I never set foot in a clothes shop really, have no clue what to wear.

If it helps, am on the short and curvy side (size 14, have been losing weight at last due to thyroid problems being identified and treated )

TIA!

Lucky you.

Monsoon's always good for this sort of thing - I like the jacket that goes with this too. Though not sure that white is right for an evening thing. Do you like patterns or plain? What sort of colours?

Ooh - I like this one - and the jacket. I love 'sludgy' colours.

This is pretty too.

oh, thanks Jackie! Of those I love the 'gabriel' plain silk dress...I think I prefer plains, I do like some patterns but I'm pretty fussy on them I think.....

sunnyside, try going to one of the big dept stores, like John Lewis and booking a personal shopper. Tell them what you want/like/budget and they will bring you stuff to try on. You don't have to buy anything. I am going to do this when I've lost some weight and want an entire new wardrobe. Oooh, how lovely, what hotel? (am hotel addict!)
