Need ultimate school run shoes - waterproof and not fugly!

I need some shoes to walk a 2 mile round trip to school, whatever the weather. Do I need Goretex for them to be waterproof? Can only find hiking-style shoes that are ridiculously horrid looking.

I have some Dubarry boots, they are gortex but just look like riding boots, I love them. They were about £300 but are knee high so can cope with puddles/mud/snow without your trousers getting wet (tuck them in) and are totally waterproof.

MrsJamin · 31/08/2016 14:44

Blimey, £300! I just want some normal looking shoes for around £50 if that's possible.

Me too, I need the same.
No way 300 squid though, just acceptable footwear. It's not that important! Currently wearing trainers which really are grim.

Oldraver · 31/08/2016 14:56

Do you definitly want shoes ? These Sorel Boots are waterproof and just above £50.

If you are looking for footwear with full on waterproof qualities then unless they are in a sale chances are you will have to pay for them and they will be off the hiking variety. Your average leather shoe should keep your feet dry especially if they are polished or sprayed, but wont stand up to heavy wet use.

Its a conundrum isnt it...I'm looking for an average pair of shoes I can wear in wet weather. I bought some lovely boots last year and they are rubbish in the wet.

Have a look at Clarks ankle boots 'Melanie' in dark tan? Sorry on phone and can't work out how to post link!

Oldraver · 31/08/2016 15:05

Melanie

Crikey they are Goretex

BagelDog · 31/08/2016 15:31

Not shoes but boots, have some Dublin river boots that saw me through rain and snow plus hilly dog walks last year? Leather and don't look too bad.

sentia · 31/08/2016 15:40

My solution to this problem is wellies with my orthotics in them so I can walk. The orthotics weren't cheap but they last and last.

MrsJamin · 01/09/2016 22:54

Whenever I wear wellies my socks end up all by my toes. Also I'm going to be scooting (don't laugh) as I'm fed up of walking so slowly. You can't scoot in wellies.

I wear Merrell trainers - never had wet feet but maybe not your cup of tea!

specialsubject · 02/09/2016 10:26

Hiking shoes look fine assuming you arent wearing an evening gown.

If you have size 7 feet or above buy from the mens ranges - better made, cheaper , no silly pink sparkles.

Coffeepot72 · 02/09/2016 17:17

karmaisabitch I love the high-tops you've suggested, where are they from? Sorry if it's obvious, but I'm looking at this on my phone.

KARMAisaBtch · 02/09/2016 17:37

It's from Next.

They also have £20 off when you spend £50 online so it's a bargain.

Let me know if you want a free voucher code. Smile

Wenchelda · 02/09/2016 21:20

I like those karma ... Can you post a link for them please? I can't seem to find them on the Next website

KARMAisaBtch · 02/09/2016 21:36

http://m.next.co.uk/g536320s2#440770

There are different colours too. I have free voucher codes £20 off £50 spend online. A bargain! Smile

Wenchelda · 02/09/2016 21:39

Thank you ... Have you tested if they're waterproof?

bingohandjob · 03/09/2016 06:50

Ecco ones in the sales? Not pretty but definitely waterproof.

Spiderpigspiderpig · 03/09/2016 06:58

I have some Scarpa trainers. Do the trick

KARMAisaBtch · 03/09/2016 07:05

Yeah, it works for me, as long as I don't get in the puddle then it's all good. :)

MrsJamin · 03/09/2016 07:38

Thanks all. I had a look at the ecco outlet store and they're not too bad!
