Help with greasy hair!

Please help ladies!

My hair gets greasy again after washing around a day later 😞.

Ive resorted to wearing it back, and washing it just twice a week, I dont dye it or even use conditioner. Just a small amount of shampoo and I always rinse thoroughly.

Any ideas please?

I have great hair (and skin) always have so I wash it everyday. I feel awful with greasy hair and it itches after 1 day.

Bloody autocorrect! I have greasy hair and skin, not particularly great!

When my hair starts needing more and more frequent washing before it gets greasy I give it a hot oil treatment. Might sound the opposite of anything logical but I think my scalp gets dry. Dry scalps produce oil. If I oil my scalp I can go quite a few days without washing.

The problem with my hair is that it's fine but there's lots of it. Plus it only gets greasy at the roots. The ends are dry so I don't want to risk drying the ends any further.

I have more or less resolved this issue by using SLS- free products. They're also petroleum/paraben free, as well as sulphate free.

The problem with products for greasy hair/skin, in my experience, is that they strip so harshly that they have to include ingredients to soften and shine again, which cause product build up and grease. Or, your body compensates by producing more oils.

The switch takes a while but my scalp is much happier!

I think if you do a lot of exercise then it gets even greasier - there is just no way I could go the gym and then not wash my hair.

Yip, I'm in the 'accept it and wash everyday' camp. There is nothing else you can do. I've tried the dry shampoo and like a pp said, I spend the day wishing I'd washed my hair. That said, every so often, my ageing, lowering oestrogen levels seem to settle the greasiest a bit. I might even get 2 days out of it. Oh the joy. Then it goes back to being greasy again.

Anyway. Just wash it. It's a pain sometimes but you feel heaps better and you're always the one with nice smelling, freshly washed hair.

JohnCheese · 29/08/2016 20:56

Settle the greasies tho sometimes I do feel the greasiest.

I have greasy hair, though less so since turning 40. I wash and condition every day (no conditioner = much worse) and use dry shampoo if I can't wash on the second day for some reason. Blow dry cooler rather than hotter and use a volumising-type product, not a frizz-ease type serum.

Try switching to a shampoo and conditioner without silicon and parabans. Our hair gets addicted to these chemicals and produces more oil. Tres Semne does a range

bigbuttons · 29/08/2016 22:19

I absolutely agree re the silicone / paraban free shampoos and conditioners , but seriously consider oiling your scalp too. It will produce less oil if it's moisturised properly. Greasy scalps often have dandruff.
