Facial hair on teen dd

13yo dd has a beauty spot on her cheek. It has sprouted a soft bristle. She hasn't mentioned it, but I just want to be prepared if she does. Is it OK to pluck the hair? I'm wary of messing with beauty spots or moles.

Take her to be threaded, much better than plucking or waxing!

You could always take her to have eyebrows threaded with you, and before you go mention they can go anywhere on your face, and see if she mentions it. If she doesn't, leave it.

I'd cut it very closely with a small pair of scissors to be honest.

I used to have one on my arm and if I plucked it it tended to aggravate it, making it rise up and appear larger. I think it didn't help that the hair didn't grow straight but was curled in there somewhat. I leave it alone now and it's a lot smaller and not as dark as a result.

Pluck it. I have loads of moles with hairs and pluck them all. Doesn't make a difference, the hair is then completely gone (no black dot) and they seem to take ages to grow back but when they do seem to appear overnight really long!
Anyway I was concerned like you about messing with moles so checked with my GP who said it's completely fine to pluck them. No risk at all

PS I would tell your daughter about the hair and get it out before someone from school notices and makes a horrible comment. They are actually quite hard to see on yourself in mirrors etc and often you can only see them in a certain light so she may not know its there. I check for mine with a magnifying mirror in a good light.

I pluck my many many moles and it's fine, GP said so and also that moles that are dodgy wouldn't be growing hairs. And you can't make a mole dodgy by plucking. Agree with others that she may not have seen it but she will get picked on for it. I did horribly and still remember now in my 30s. Plucking makes them stay Away longer too.

I pluck mine. Threading would be heavy handed!

She's already been teased on and off for being hairy since she was 5, and is beginning to develop self/confidence and her own sense of style, so I'm not going to mention it until she does. I'm not going to tell dd that she has to change herself to prevent bullying. We've talked about hair removal in general, looked at different methods, and she know I will support her in her choices.

I used my lumea on a couple and it's kept the hairs at bay (and no change to the moles) but it's an expensive purchase for just a couple of hairs.

Take her to a dermatologist and see if she can have laser hair removal or something similar. I take after my father (very hairy man) so ever since puberty I have had facial hair as well as some pretty ugly hair in my thighs that joined the pubic hair and went up to my navel. It was a jungle down there.

I had laser treatment years ago and it's now much better, though I have no idea if it's safe/appropriate for a child. Besides, it's not painless, even with anaesthestic cream. But it's totally worth it, I was tired of the constant plucking of hair and worrying about it, and I got horrible back ache from doing my legs with the Epilady, for hours.

No idea what the treatment should be for the hair on the beaty spot, but the dermatologist will surely give you good advice on that as well.

Beauty spot hair though I'd say pluck it or if worried about that use fine nail scissors to cut the hair.

Just whip it out with a pair of tweezers - better to do it at home and not make a big deal of it rather than let her be bullied when other people notice.

Take her to a trained electrolysis practitioner (they have a professional body - cant remember the name of it but if you google you'll find it). Electrolysis is the only method of permenant hair removal that works on all hair colour and is very effective. They will do it on hairs in moles.

You may need to go a couple of times (if it's for a single hair) - something to do with the hair follicle needing to be destroyed at the right time in the growing cycle. But it won't take long.

Honestly best thing I ever did and wished I'd gone when younger. Much better than plucking which overtime irritates skin.

Sorry - in case wasn't clear - ONLY take her to someone who is a trained member of the professional body - this is important as charlatans are around - it can scar if not done properly.

Snip off the hair with nail scissors close to the skin.

Will need attending to once or twice a week when she's young then a bit more often as she gets into her 30s.
