What to wear for DS' christening on Sunday

I have tried to search Google for some appropriate answers, and all it comes up with is gowns for babies.
It's part of the main service at my church in the morning, so I don't want to stand out too much (i.e. not too glam), but I'd like to look like I count too!
Any suggestions? ps, have a very tight budget and not much shopping time....

I'd do trouser suit with foxy top under for meal or whatever if there is one.

Some mums wear hats, but this is prob OTT- have you been to a service at this church and what are the congregation wearing? Use this as your benchmark for smartness.

God, that message is garbled!

i went OTT when we had ds1 blessing but with ds2 i had a nice simple black and white dress with black shoes and some nice jewellery.

Do you have anything in your wardrobe that you could wear and just get some nice accessories???

Fiona365 · 29/01/2007 13:53

I was hoping to find something in my rather scant wardrobe, but just didn't know where to start. I always seem to struggle with the smart wedding/formal occasion thing.

It's being held at my church, which is quite a casual place - I usually go in jeans, so it's quite tricky between being smart enough and not sticking out like a sore thumb!

Any more ideas?!

Anybody good at accessorising and how to do it subtly enough for church?!

what sort of thing do you want to wear fiona?

MrsBadger · 29/01/2007 18:30

If you normally wear jeans to church I wouldn't go too mad, definitely not wedding-formal.

Maybe just non-jeans trousers and a nice top - perhaps a jacket or a blouse rather than a t-shirt / jumper, or a skirt with boots.

Are you having a do afterwards?

Fiona365 · 29/01/2007 21:23

We are having a small lunch do after, then a few more people in the afternoon for a glass of something and some cake.

I was thinking of something skirty, or smart trousers, but have trouble choosing smart/dressy tops and accessories.

Right, I am going shopping on small budget on Saturday with a friend to have a look for something.

Any suggestions from Next, Monsoon, H&M for pretty/glamorous tops?
