£150 in Boots vouchers to revamp my make up kit

Help!

DH has given me vouchers as a gift, and I feel the need to revamp my make up bag.

I am mid 40s and have moderate Rosacea. I usually use mineral powder make up but I am finding the buffing is now irritating my skin too.

I have fair to medium skin, with Rosacea redness on my cheeks, and freckles. Not too badly lined and I would say probably combination skin. I currently use Bare Minerals Medium Beige, to give you an idea of my skin tone.

I was going to try a liquid foundation again, and I was thinking about the No7 colour match, or maybe Clinique, though when I used Clinique before I found it heavy and felt like I wanted to scratch it off my face!

I m worried it will be difficult to get something that will even out my skin tones!

Any suggestions or recommendations? I will be hoping to replace all the contents of my make up bag, so can't spend it all on one pr two items!

Clinique can be really heavy but it gives great coverage! Number 7 is great value, might be worth a go! Estée Lauder have recently launched DoubleWear Light which I'm enjoying at the moment - the original formula was far too heavy for me!

For coverage without weight, I'd maybe try a colour-correcting primer (green based will neutralise the red!) and then a light liquid foundation, followed by an opaque powder. Boots do a great loose powder and so do Clinique - plus, you'll end up with a matte look similar to what you have with BM

First off, go to boots and get "colour matched" as I think that even with Rosacea they ought to be able to get the right tone for your foundation. They use a little machine that "reads" your face. Flag down a No.7 counter rep and they'll do it for free and will be able to suggest appropriate products.

However, I would recommend if you are pretty committed to mineral foundation you switch to "BM Beauty" mineral foundation. I used to use Bare Minerals and it was too claggy and heavy. My go-to face base is Maybelline "Baby Skin" primer and the BM Beauty "Fairy Glow" mineral powder. X

It's the first time in years I have been able to contemplate spending that sort of money on make up, and I desperately need a full overhaul, but the make up will be a start.

If you are going to use a liquid foundation I can't recommend highly enough the real techniques Miracle sponge. I bought it on a whim and I am so glad I did. Clinique lady in Boots told me today they will have 10% off this weekend, and if you buy two bits from them you'll get a goody bag (I had a look and was actually impressed with what they were giving away).

There is an insecticide cream especially formulated and available this past year for rosacea. It's called Ivermectin and available in boots.

My mum swears by it as it kills the mite which causes the red pustules.
There is all a cream with active ingredient permethrin

Have fun with the make up. Maybe your rosacea will be gone in a few weeks.

I have tried loads of high street foundations, went for colour match at No 7, and binned all my other bottles after buying their light beautifully matt foundation.

The colour match is perfect (I'm cool vanilla). It doesn't look mask like, and hasn't broken me out, as other foundations have done. I know you have a different skin type, but speak to a consultant about which formulation would suit you.
Try their mascara in the gold tube. It's a long wear formulation, and again, binned all my other mascaras because I love it so much.

If it's just the buffing that's a problem with the mineral powder, could you just use a sponge or something instead? Laura Mercier do a great pressed mineral powder that comes with a little sponge, so I normally just use that, or brush the powder onto my face like you would normal loose powder rather than buffing it in. I don't know if Bare Minerals do something similar?

What else are you looking for apart from foundation?

I went for the No.7 colour match and bought a liquid matte foundation. I wasn't impressed with the colour though, it didn't really match my skin tone in natural light.

I would go and try a few different ones, they will apply a full face. Go out into natural light before you decide though.

I have very pink skin with a tendancy to flush, I know love pore erasing primers! I bought a benefit one called 'the porefessional' which was too pricer for every day at £29 but after reading reviews online have now switched to maybeline 'baby skin' pore eraser which is around £5.99.

What ever foundation you end up getting I'd def recommend it for on its own for make up free days for for under foundation for more flawlessness!

£150 is a great amount! I LOVE Chanel foundation, pricey but it is to spoil yourself. A Naked palette for every eye colour you'd need ever and plenty left over for lipsticks, blush. Honestly, spoil yourself!

I prefer Estee Lauder and Christian Dior foundations over Clinique. If possible chat to the assistants on various counters and ask their advice and I am sure they will give you samples to try at home. It's always nice to try them in your own time and see how they feel over the course of a few hours.

I have moderate Rosacea, psoriasis (fortunately not on face) and pale skin. I've worked my way through oddles of foundation, and hung around with both bare minerals and Estée Lauder double wear for long periods. Currently I'm using No7 Beautifully Matt in Calico and Cool Vanilla mixed together in a little tub (2 squirts cool vanilla to 4 squirts of calico). I use the no7 flawless primer too, followed by NYX translucent HD powder and urban decay slick setting spray. My nose and chin lose foundation quickly, and I find some things irritate the beep out of me. For me eyes I use an essence primer but I'm looking to change that as I think something in it is mildly irritating my skin
I'm envious but whatever you try, try to take home a sample - I've got lots of foundations in my vanity unit which were failed experiments....

I have similar colouring to you OP. I use Dermablend concealer for my pink cheeks. I've found Bourjois serum foundation to be good, but agree to get samples if you want to go for the more high end foundations.

Naked pallets from Urban Deacay are great. There's tons of threads about mascaras, my faves are Clinique Lash power and Benefit Roller lash/ball?

Get some good brushes, Real Techniques are great.

NOTSOMANKY I am mid forties and had / have mild rosacea. I went to the Mac counter to buy their studio fix. While discussing my needs the lovely bloke told me about his big sister who helped her rosacea just by drinking 2 litres of water a day!

I'm a huge sceptic but since the therapeutic cream I have for it stinks I thought I'd try. I soooooo works. The roughness is gone and most of the redness too. I have a slight pinkness left but it's 80% improved. Just by drinking water.

Just thought that this might be worth a go if you are going to get some make up from clinique.

I'd say go into one of the bigger stores and talk to the girls at the counters, they should try the makeup on you (and give you tips on how to use it) it's a fun day out and they don't get commission so they don't force things on you !
Or you can book a no7 makeover online and she'll do your makeup and talk you through the products. Have fun!!

Another vote for the No 7 foundation. I didn't get colour matched, because I know I am always whatever the palest shade is, but did ask advice about which formula to go for and ended up with a liquid one called (irc) Stay Perfect. I also bought a nail varnish and got the free gift which included my choice of full size lipstick. Also had a money off voucher, so ended up getting lots for my money.

Do Boots sell Urban Decay? If yes, I'd definitely go for a Naked palette. I'd also go to the Benefit counter for a Rollerlash mascara.

Boots don't sell MAC or UD.

In Boots I'd buy Doublewear (light for you), Benefit Gimme Brow and then loads of skincare for the Caroline Hirons Cheat Sheet routine.
