I really fancy some h&m shoes, I've never bought their shoes before but it seems they only do 6.5 or 7.5. I'm a 7 so do I size up or down? Why such weird sizing is it a European thing?

I'd say it is "a European thing":

However I don't know about sizing up or down in H&M shoes - perhaps try above and below and return the rejected ones?

Yep, it's just that they've been made in European sizes, which don't correspond exactly to the UK scale.
Try the 7.5s - they should correspond to a European 40.

I'm usually a 7 and am currently wearing a size 6.5 H&M skater shoes.

They were a little tight, but I've worn them a lot and they've loosened up a bit and are really comfy

I noticed this recently in another shop: there the sizes were European, but I noticed that a couple of UK sizes were missing on the conversion chart. As my feet are slightly larger than a 7, the next size up is equivalent to 8, and too big for me. A big nuisance for me.

SesameSparkle · 03/08/2016 14:00

That's probably just the way they've translated their European sizes (40, 41 etc) into UK sizes as there's a mismatch around the 6-7 range. I'm guessing their 6.5 is a European size 40 and their 7.5 is a European 41 - maybe have a look at some of the shoes you own already to decide which of these two might be the best fit?

i work in a european shoe shop, our 6 is a 40 then our 7 is a 41 and 8 is 42

banivani · 03/08/2016 14:27

I am generally a Eur 40, which translates to 6.5 when available and 7 otherwise in my experience. My feet are pretty perfectly 25 cm long. ;) 6.5 Clarks and 7 Fly London, as an example, and my Docs sz 7 are a smidgen large...

Amazing! Thanks so much. I might try the 7.5 as I think I've got other shoes in a 41!

41 is dead on 7.5 in H&M which is why I tend to buy a lot of footwear from them, they're very consistent.

banivani · 03/08/2016 16:33

I'd agree, 41 is your best bet!

EmmaWoodlouse · 04/08/2016 22:15

I take size 7 and their 7.5 fits me best.
