Cold shoulder tops...

I may be late in summer to try but I'm a little scared to try cold shoulder tops! Blush
I think some look silly and poncho-like but I have seen some lovely ones but not sure they'd look right on me; I have not-skinny arms and I feel like I'd always feel self-conscious of the fact that it'd look like I'm wearing them to hide the bingo wings Confused.
Any one else think the same?

Speak for yourself Lucky!

My top is bloody lovely and flattering. Grin

Yes, my various cold shoulder tops are fabulous and I look great in them. And I've had some amazingly nice comments. So.

MadisonMontgomery · 30/07/2016 13:37

Personally I think they look a bit cheap and nasty - the kind of thing you find on a market stall.

FankEweVeryMuch · 30/07/2016 16:15

Any clothing with cut outs is a no, no for me. I don't mind Bardot style or the ones with very thin straps but actual cold shoulder is just not good.

SuckingEggs · 01/08/2016 00:41

Not everyone can carry them off WinkGrin

WhatamessIgotinto · 02/08/2016 13:54

Is it not possible to simply say that you don't particularly like a style of clothing without trying to make other people feel crap by saying that it is cheap and nasty looking? And no, I don't own any of these particular tops as I don't believe I would suit them, but bitchy comments are not really necessary.

Naicecuppatea · 02/08/2016 14:28

I too haven't seen one look nice on anyone, sorry OP. I like the completely off the shoulder tops. I don't think anyone is being bitchy, I think there is a lot of agreement that cut out anything can look a bit tacky. But of course each to their own!

Getit · 02/08/2016 14:32

I like them
Have a few

I think it should be taken as read that most people posting on a talkboard are generally speaking for themselves.

Just my opinion! Grin

I have not embraced the 'cold shoulder' trend as I think it will only last for 5 minutes and I like to get mileage out of my clothes.

I love Bardot tops, though.

Middleoftheroad · 02/08/2016 14:54

I have one. I have Slim arms. It's ok. But when I look around every other person is wearing them. Bit like harem pants. That puts me off.
Sometimes I wonder if it's necessary to take a nice top and over design it with cold shoulder. Bit like when you see a lovely blouse only to find it's a bloody playsuit.

Think I am just being old and grumpy as I don't get most modern fashion - feels like designers have run out of ideas and that everybody is wearing the same - but that's fast fashion for you. I love bardot tops and dresses though - v flattering.

Getit · 02/08/2016 15:04

Bardot tops are so uncomfortable.

UhtredRagnorsson · 02/08/2016 15:36

Naicecuppatea anything can look tacky. But that doesn't mean that everything that falls under a particular description does. By default.

Anyway. It's how people wear the things that makes them look either good or not.

Couldn't agree more. Generally people who are adept at putting an outfit together well can make most things look fine.

leccybill · 02/08/2016 16:07

I wore a Bardot top on Saturday. Then remembered why I hate things with ruching and elastic. So uncomfy and spent the whole evening adjusting it.

DietCockBreak · 02/08/2016 16:21

Some people are much too interested in what other people are wearing. I wore a cut out shoulder top yesterday. It was a cheap one from primark, and I'm over 30, and I'm not the slimmest armed person ever (although only a size 12 so not huge either). I did not get spontaneously awarded "sexiest, best-dressed supermodel 2016" as I walked down the street - not sure if that was down to the top though. On the other hand, nobody threw up on sight of me and I wasn't arrested. I therefore conclude that those tops are fine.

I might become a fashion blogger. People can check on my blog to find out if what they want to wear is ok or not.

Yes. People in the Style and Beauty folder generally like talking about clothes.

DietCockBreak · 02/08/2016 17:25

Haha, sorry I just saw this was style and beauty. I came here from Active Threads, I normally stick to chat and AIBU. I'll climb back under my very unfashionable rock!

UhtredRagnorsson · 02/08/2016 20:34

Dietcock - yes, I was wearing cold shoulder tops at a thing the other week. i got loads of lovely comments and not one negative one. Probably some mean spirited people thought mean spirited things but that doesn't really matter. I looked good, I felt good and lots of people were really nice. I didn't feel cheap, I didn't act cheap and I didn't look cheap.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 02/08/2016 20:43

I saw a photo of Kate Middleton in a cold shoulder dress recently. Looked quite regal.

HoneyDragon · 07/08/2016 12:43

Technically ANYTHING Kate wears looks regal Grin
