Wardrobe decluttering HELP!!!!

Budababe · 26/01/2007 12:40

Right am moving house at beg of March. Need to declutter whole house but am starting with my wardrobe.

Have FAR FAR FAR too many clothes. In various sizes.

Am currently a size 24. On diet (supposedly) and have clothes in sizes 20, 22, and 24. Some of the size 20s are 3/4 years old - both summer and winter.

So - do I hang on to 20s/22s till I lose weight? Do I just junk them now on the basis that I will buy new as I lose weight anyway?

How long should I keep things?

Hi Buda. I think you should keep your favourites in all sizes but thin out the wardrobe generally.

You need clothes in whatever size you happen to be as you need to feel comfortable and, realistically and honestly, hardly any of us is ever the weight we want to be at any given time so it's best to cover all options.

How about ebaying 50 percent of your wardrobe?

I wouldn't hang onto the size 20s - you'll want to be rewarding yourself with new clothes when you lose the weight. Maybe keep a very few bits of the size 22s, if there are things you love, or classic things that you really will need. Then even if you want to buy yourself new size 22 stuff, you'll have something to wear while you're looking. But ditch most of it (even the size 22s), I reckon.

I think the classic rule is: if you haven't worn it in a year, then it goes.

Thanks - yes I think you are right. Will chuck most except for nicer bits.

Can't e-bay as am in Hungary but will give to charity here.

Right will keep 4 outfits in each size plus what fits me now. Rest goes!

Have you chucked yet, and if so do you feel better?!

Have 2 bags ready to go.

Have bed in spare room covered in piles of clothes:

Size 22
Size 20 (largest pile)
Size 18

Will go through again next week and wittle down.

Am feeling quite good about it.

Just need to do rest of house now!

Well done buda. I was inspired by this very thread to get a big bag full of clothes out to the charity shop yesterday. So thanks.
