Jeans to a wedding reception how much a no-no??

I need an outfit for a wedding reception asap. I don't own any trousers, I find it hard to find a nice fit and don't wear dresses, won't go into the reasons for that but a dress or skirt is not an option. By jeans I mean jet black , nicely fitted (new) skinny ones, with a nice top, light coloured blazer, accessories etc. I this a complete no? Surely black trousers will look the same in a darkened room? or is black just a general no-no?

TIA

Is it the evening do, or the formal bit with speeches? If just the evening do, I think you'd maybe just about get away with it if you've really got no other options. The formal reception with food and speeches, I really don't think that's ok, sorry. Unless of course they've specifically said jeans are fine. But usually even a casual dress code for a wedding means no jeans.

Apologies for duplicate thread, it didn't show as posted

I'm not really sure tbh, it's from 7:30 pm so I would think just the party part of it all, there is no meal planned just a buffet

Complete no from me. Sorry.

srtajuanita · 23/07/2016 11:12

I think if it's the evening party, and you go super glam with top, shoes, accessories etc, then you'll be fine. Not for the ceremony, though, ever. Flowers

Buddahbelly · 23/07/2016 11:15

For the evening bit I think you'd get away with it, just.

For my cousins wedding 6 years ago someone turned up to the whole day wearing skinny jeans and a vest top with jacket over. My aunt's still talk about wearing that outfit to a wedding.

Simmi1 · 23/07/2016 11:17

I wouldn't even for the evening part but agree if you're super glam with the top, accessories and shoes then you'll probably get away with it.

everythingsgoingsouth · 23/07/2016 11:21

You see, i would have thought, if it was the ceremony/day do, you would be a wanted/cherished guest so as long as the jeans and other bits were clean, smart and as formal as poss, that would be ok.
And if it's the party bit, I'd be fine with that anyway.
May depend how classy the wedding is I guess...how well do you know the couple? could you speak with them?

RNBrie · 23/07/2016 11:24

Totally fine for evening only.

Gardenbirds123 · 23/07/2016 11:25

No no no no noooooo

No

Wishfulmakeupping · 23/07/2016 11:26

Fine for evening do IMO black jeans normally just look like black trousers anyway and that would be fine so don't see the difference

PotteringAlong · 23/07/2016 11:27

No no no no no.

squoosh · 23/07/2016 11:28

Absolutely fine for the evening do.

Simmi1 · 23/07/2016 11:31

Agree that depends on venue and type of wedding. I've been to some very formal weddings where I don't think it would be OK even in the evening. I've also been to more casual type wedding where it would be absolutely fine.

SheSparkles · 23/07/2016 11:32

My gut reaction is no, but in the real world I'm thinking they're brand new and jet black, and as long as you make big effort with hair etc then you won't look like you've not made an effort so it's a yes from me-but only because it's the evening do

SciFiFan2015 · 23/07/2016 12:09

My beloved cousin came to my wedding in an outfit many would have thought unsuitable for a wedding (all day guest). I didn't care. I wanted her there, she could have worn a bin bag and I've been delighted to see her. She's in the photos too.

AnecdotalEvidence · 23/07/2016 12:59

Are you saying you only ever wear jeans?

I don't think jeans are ok for a wedding reception.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 23/07/2016 13:14

With nice top and shoes? Completely fine for evening do IMHO. If I was getting married it wouldn't bother me if you wore nice, black jeans to the ceremony / meal either tbh.

I'd far prefer that than some of the far too short, backless, low cut numbers I've seen some people wear to weddings Wink.

YouSay · 23/07/2016 13:15

No no no no. Can you not get a pair of black skinny trousers instead?

Sparkletastic · 23/07/2016 13:15

No.
Didn't we have exact same thread a couple of weeks ago?

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 23/07/2016 13:18

I wouldn't wear jeans or go in black to a wedding reception sorry

NeverTalksToStrangers · 23/07/2016 13:19

No. Definitely not if in Ireland but then we do much dressier weddings than england for starters.

A dressy jumpsuit however would be fab.

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/07/2016 13:20

Jeans are great, I spend most of my life in them. However they are not appropriate for all occassions, a wedding is one of them. Find and buy a pair of trousers OP.

specialsubject · 23/07/2016 13:41

I didn't care or notice what people wore to my very small wedding - but that may not be the case for the full works job where you do have to make an effort.

£20 black trousers from next. Do for all smart occasions.

HaPPy8 · 23/07/2016 13:49

If it makes you feel better OP lots and lots of women struggle to get trousers in a good fit! But jeans to a wedding is not really ok I don't think sorry.
