Advice please for sorting out hair that has been coloured badly too many times!

My hair is naturally a dark mousey brown but I am getting greys appearing now.
I have a hairdresser come to my house & do highlights but the last couple of times I've really disappointed. I didn't' think the highlights were covering the greys enough and they were still so noticeable right after she'd done the highlights. So she started tinting my roots with a brown similar to my natural hair colour. This does cover the greys effectively.

The highlights she did last time were so bleached blonde, they are now in stark contrast to my brown roots. Also they don't seem to be even so there are blocks of bright blonde highlights and then chunks of brown hair.
Recently the roots started showing so I had grey/mousey roots, then orangey brassy highlights, then bleached blonde highlights.

Basically it's a colour mess & I just don't know how to put it right. I think my hairdresser is limited in the colour options she has and basically just slaps on a bleach and thinks it'll do but I just think it does me
no favours and doesn't suit my skin tone.

I am happy to go to some salons for advice but want to have a bit of a clue what I'm asking for.

How do I get rid of this brassy over bleached clumpy look?
Ideally I just want brown hair with some natural looking highlights & no grey!

Any advice please?

I think just go to a salon and explain just like you have here. Any hairdresser worth their salt will be able to see what the problem is & offer a good solution. I had your problem and the hairdresser solved it by putting in highlights and then painting all over colour round the foils. Looked great.

Thanks Lucky. What happens when the roots start to show? Do you just have them done in the all over colour or highlights every time too? Just thinking it could be costly!

The all over colour would fade between appointments so the whole thing would be done again. I found a hairdresser who works from home in order to have it done more cheaply. I hope it turns out ok!
