Recommendations for sandals or flats to wear with knee/midi skirts?

CurbsideProphet · 14/07/2016 19:34

I'm going on holiday to a European city in August. I'll be wearing knee/midi skirts and maybe tea dresses (if I can find one that flatters a short size 12/14). I'm not sure what shoes/sandals will look stylish and be comfy for lots of walking.

I'm usually a 5.5 and have quite narrow ankles. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance Smile

I'd go for a non-sporty Merrell if your nee is for comfort over style. I have a dark brown leather pair that I feel go with casual skirts and summer dresses when it's hot and I'll be walking.

They're not cheap but they last and I LOVE my Merrell, year after year.

I had the same thoughts.
Aside of wedges or heels, i think your options are ballet flats, or superga type pumps. Tried mine on with flat sandals and didn't look right.

CurbsideProphet · 14/07/2016 21:58

I think I would prefer ballet pumps over sandals, but wasn't sure what would go with midi skirts. Good tips thanks Smile

I'm just back from a European city holiday, I wore new balance 420 trainers with knee length skirts and dresses. I reckon it looked ok!

My "summer uniform" is midi dress and trainer type shoes. I have Nike Roshe, and various colours of Supergas, but this might be a bit casual for what you're after. I also have Saltwater sandals which I thought would work with skirts/dresses, but actually they look much better with jeans.

Ballet pumps generally have thin soles though. Not great after a day's walking.
I would look for a thicker sole ( good if you are a bit short too).
I can't suggest much as my style is " fuggly" shoes but perhaps a glance at Rocket Dog or Fly might help you find something stylish but robust?
I am looking at ASOS for some lovely clogs but I understand this might not be to your taste!

reveal Good point about ballet pumps having thin soles. I hadn't thought about Rocket Dog. I have some fab boots from them, so I will have a look on their website at flats etc.

Judy and cannae I'm not really a sporty trainer person, but I will have a look at soft loafer type things. I don't want to spend the week limping about because of blisters from ill fitting sandals!

I just had a quick google of superga. Love the look, but sadly they are way out of my budget Sad

Try tk maxx for superga, they've had loads in lately for around £15.

CurbsideProphet · 15/07/2016 07:52

Great thanks dragons !

Not sure it this would be your style OP, but if you want something like ballet pumps, I can recommend these from Clarks:

Feature film shoes

I have them in black and gold and they are very comfy as have a decent sole and the strap keeps them snug on the feet without having to be too tight. Also have half sizes and are reduced in the sale!

CurbsideProphet · 15/07/2016 12:21

Great thank you! I do like Clarks, as their 5.5 usually fits me well Smile

Personally, I find walking sandals much more comfortable than ballet flats or canvas shoes. I've just bought these, also from Clarks and am expecting to walk miles in them this summer.

I also tried these on and they were very comfortable, but not so outdoorsy.

Bonbonchance · 15/07/2016 15:41

I got leather Superga in the Schuh sake recently....they are great I wear them with everything!

CurbsideProphet · 15/07/2016 16:49

blue I like those Clarks sandals, thanks for the links. Yes you're right, a day in ballet flats would probably be a recipe for blisters!

It looks like Clarks for the win now, especially with that sale on Smile

VeraVioletVinn · 18/07/2016 10:08

Fab, hope they work out for you Curbside - I am having to restrain myself from ordering a third pair in another colour...

ShyGirlie · 18/07/2016 14:37

My legs always look terrible when i try to wear flat sandals with a knee length skirt or dress. Can't do heels though. Where am i going wrong?

Fed up sweating it out in jeans all summer due to this problem!

Jemimapuddleduk · 18/07/2016 14:40

The Clarks taylor palms are beautiful and in the sale currently.

CurbsideProphet · 18/07/2016 16:04

shy I'm not keen on having my legs oit, but I just go with it. I can't wear jeans in this weather!

Jemima I ordered a pair online at the weekend (as well as their feature film shoes!) Smile

Hope you like them. I have the silver ones and they are just beautiful! I would love navy patent but they don't do that colour.
