Ashamed nail biter- what can I put over the top to let them grow?

Just that really. A lifelong nail biter, the nasty tasting stuff doesn't stop me. What would people recommend to have put on top to let them grow underneath? Gel? Acrylic? I don't know what these mystery things are! I wouldn't want anything that would weaken the nail or involve sanding it down (do they even do that, I have no idea...)

Just want to shield my own nails while they have a chance to grow. Thanks all!

I get acrylics and they haven't damaged my own nails if anything it's made them stronger.
Gel polish is more hard wearing
You can refuse to get your nails sanded.
They just use a nail file to keep them tidy

I didn't know that they can apply them without sanding. The sanding makes my nails weak and paper thin. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah he just uses the nail file on mine as I didn't want them really weak.
If I didn't ask they wouldn't of done it.

I used acrylics for this purpose and they didn't really file them. Once a bit longer I used polish on them all the time to stop biting, even if clear or neutral.

Cnd will do nails with no drilling. They'll buff if needed but not drill them.

GnarlyOldGoatDude · 04/07/2016 22:27

What's CND please?

Creative nail design. They invented shellac nail polish.

Thank you 😊

My nails are really soft and bendy. Last year I found that a gel varnish made them really tough. I doubt you could bite them easily.

I asked in a couple of local salons and use one that does not sand nails.
