Dealing with facial hair

As I get older I find I am getting more and more hairs on my chin. Some of these are quite dark. I also get a number of dark hairs on my upper lip.

Thus far I have been removing these by plucking but they keep on coming. Plucking is painful, fiddle and time consuming, especially as I Have to put my reading glasses on to see the little buggers!

So could I have people's recommendations for the most effective way of dealing with these, without spending an absolute fortune. I have heard people mention these IPL machines but don't understand how they work and whether they actually do the trick

So let me get this straight - if you want to use a Lumea (or other IPL) then shaving is part of the procedure? Is that right? Why???

Its so that you don't interrupt the hair's natural growth cycle. If you pluck or wax then each hair is at a different stage of the growth cycle, whereas if you shave then they are all the same. If you've plucked for a long time it can take a while to balance this out. The lumea does its magic at certain stages of the growth cycle so plucking will affect this. I think?
