RIght, I'm getting on, not late thirties at all but thirty bloody nine and I need a wardrobe/image overhaul. What looks passable in front of the mirror in the morning leaves me Mutton and Muffin-Topped in the heat of the day. Do you know what I mean?

What would really help me get an idea of what suits me/I could get away with would be studying the clothes of a prominent person with the same figure. Can you think of anyone who has this odd shape that I can emmulate?

Lovely accessories do help Nice bags etc

marthamoo · 20/01/2007 11:09

You're a similar shape to me - though I'm not quite as tall (or quite as old ). My top half is a 14, whereas my bottom half is a slimmish 12 (10 when I can stick to WeightWatchers). Big boobs, no waist or hips to speak of and not much of a bum. Tummy is my problem area - I'm an apple, rather than a pear.

I used to wear baggy - but I looked like Demis Roussos - so generally I wear jeans and slim-fitting (not tight) T-shirts and tops. The one thing I have learned over the years is that crew necks look fracking awful on me - I need scoop or V-necks (I used to wear polo necks when I was a student...what was I thinking?) Can't wear strappy tops - I wear wide strapped vest tops a lot in the summer. In fact my standard summer uniform is a wide strapped vest top with wide leg linen trousers (I think it's easier to get away with that style of trousers when you're tall).

I have never found a dress I really like so tend to stick to separates - and I wear skirts a lot now, long and floaty or knee length, again with fairly fitted tops.

And I've seen pictures of you in a swimming cossie, remember - I saw no evidence of a jelly belly.

I'm not really helping much am I? Am racking my brain for a well dressed person with the same body shape...

babywhiting · 20/01/2007 11:23

i love you people i have the same problem, big boobs and size 12 with 33 " long legs aaarrrggggg! well i've got a wedding to go to in august can i wear a dress or not?
hope we can all sort something to wear out!!!

marthamoo · 20/01/2007 11:27

I'd love a dress - I wanted one when I had 3 weddings to go to a couple of years ago...but I've never found one that suited me. Ended up in a boring old trouser suit.

Piffle · 20/01/2007 11:32

if you have nice arms and shoulders, bravissimo do some great vest tops with built in bras
I have a couple and they are marvellous.
I am a great fan of funky cardigans, with t shirt under neath and only top few or middle couple buttons done up
No hips looks great in 7 jeans, gives you an ass and an illusion of shape.
A neat low or mid heel. Boots are good but not in a hot summer.
Sarah Beeny is almost my figure butas she worls on building sites, turnign to ehr for style inspiration gets you nowhere fast.
susannah from TRinny and Sus is similar now she has lost some weight but once again have seen her in some quite hideous outfits.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 20/01/2007 13:48

hahahahaha
i just found a website that tells you who your figure is most like...
Jessica Simpson. er noooooo

here

CODNoMore · 20/01/2007 14:21

sduzy i htink you coudl wear slouchy trouseers wiht quite a lot of detail ont hem (poskets embroidery) - have my eye ont he boden slouch jeasn altho have bnevr deigned to deivate from gap

tops are mroe of a trial a and error thing
look carefully where the sleev ends you dont want a line from your bust to your sleeve end.

KristinaM · 20/01/2007 21:04

can I join the " big boobs, skinny legs, no bum jelly belly" club?

Every top that fit my ( whispers) 32J boobs makes me look pg. Which I usually am but not at the moment .Except for the bravissimo ones that cling attractively to the rolls of fat around my middle

Piffle · 20/01/2007 21:08

great site
but flawed
Mischa Barton, Cameron Diaz, Kate Bosworth and Gwyneth Paltrow
HAHAHAHA with tits like mine
Don't think so
But after the surgery...
maybe

SmileysPeople · 20/01/2007 21:15

This is me also. Although I am not tall. But I do have large norks, slim legs, no hips or bum, but also no waist and a jelly belly.
I do wear wrap dresses quite alot, shows off norks really well with deep v neckline, which distracts from belly. Keep it casual with suede wedge boots so don't feel too dressy.

Every day wear does tend to be little fitted cardies and shirts, but buy them small so I can't do them up over norks, and have tshirt underneath. That way shows off norks but also shows I'm not that size all the way down.

I wear fitted and slouchy trousers, I think you can get away with both with no hips.

definelty no crew or polo necks though. And I too have carefully studuied Susannah's outfits.

sunnywong · 22/01/2007 14:12

so what do we all reckon then?
small cardis in exquisite yarns to cover norks and bias cut skirts to give us some hips?

OP posts:
noddyholder · 22/01/2007 14:14

Yes and low slung linen trousers with fitted tunic shaped tops in lovely colours

purplemonkeydishwasher · 22/01/2007 16:20

examples please? i'm not so good with fashion lingo!

SmileysPeople · 22/01/2007 19:32

I don't get this Trinny and Susannah idea of 'balancing out' your figure, and wearing clothes to 'give you hips.' I have no hips and a small arse and I'm going to bloody well show it off. I'm not going to pretend I'm covering up a big bean arse.

It's one of my best features and I'll show it off, just to piss off my big arsed friends if nothing else.
They get me back with their washboard stomachs just slighty peeking out from a short top and hipster jeans
No one tells you to 'balnce out' your stomach do they??

SmileysPeople · 22/01/2007 19:34

To summarise:
I think bias skirts not necessary, leave for the big arse crowd.
Get a pencil skirt! and kitten heels!
Now we're talking.

pollyanna · 22/01/2007 19:43

I have J Lo's body (apparently)

I have a friend with your body shape - she can get away with tighter jeans and lovely pencil skirts/40's shoes combos. She has problems with her top half too though. I think scoop necks/cap sleeves would look good, but not shirts?

SmileysPeople · 22/01/2007 20:09

I have friends with your body Pollyanna.
We spend the whole time saying 'I wish I had your little waist' or 'your tiny little bum,' we're never happy are we?

But J-Lo's body? Wow lucky you. That type of big arse can also you the tight jeans/pencil skirt thing.

pollyanna · 22/01/2007 20:43

smileyspeople, I only have JLo's body according to the site posted below. In RL my body bears very little resemblence to JLo!

SmileysPeople · 22/01/2007 20:47

Oh I missed that.

I just did mone, apparently I'm most like Jessica Simpson I'd rather be J-Lo.

hoolagirl · 23/01/2007 11:32

Huh, you lot are not that bad!
Try having 36E tits and a 36 inside leg, effing nightmare! (although the big tits were my choice)
