what to wear for a job interview in hot weather?

I'm very last minute here but I have a job interview tomorrow and nothing to wear! All of my work clothes are pre baby and I'm a stone heavier now so none of it fits well. I have a knee length skirt with a stretchy waistband so I had thought I would wear that with tights, a sleeveless top and blazer jacket but it will be too hot for the jacket and tights and I won't look smart enough with bare legs and just the sleeveless top!
I have a bit of time this afternoon to get to the shops but will have 2 kids with me so can't do much aimless browsing - can anyone suggest any ideas for something that might work?

I'm afraid I am a tights person, nude shiny ones usually, even in hot weather, if wearing a skirt or a dress. I find in this country you are usually ok, if it's work you are mainly in an air conditioned office aren't you? I wore tights with dresses when working in India...

I think a skirt tights floaty top and jacket with flats if you prefer would be smart enough for an interview?

Primark and sainsburys do great dresses for work in my opinion. Maybe go navy blue or black if you are worried about sweat patches etc....

dudsville · 09/06/2016 07:08

If it's a hit country they might have air conditioning? Id assume so and go formal. Just go home after and shower and change back into cooler things.

Iamblossom · 09/06/2016 07:08

Today for example I am
London bound for work, it's going to be muggy. I am in a navy dress from Primark, navy lightweight jacket from new look, navy Mary Jane heels, with a bright yellow bag for a colour pop and chunky gold necklace and cuff bracelet.

Iamblossom · 09/06/2016 07:09

Sorry I assumed you were in the UK hence shop suggestions

hazelnutlatte · 09/06/2016 07:27

Yes I am in the UK, it's pretty muggy and hot here although I know there has been rain elsewhere so maybe it will be cooler by tomorrow. I've not worn sheer tights for about 15 years but maybe I will buy some - can you get decent ones in supermarkets?

A navy dress sounds good, can anyone link to one? I could go to sainsburys but our local one never seems to have anything nice in stock!

I bought a navy shirt dress from Primark last week, it was in the sale so very cheap. It's semi sheer so I bought one of those navy long vests/dress things that Primark sell tons of to wear underneath.
I wore the dress for work to a meeting yesterday with a pair of navy wedge sandals and I looked smart but felt cool. I hate feeling 'trussed up' in the heat.

Good luck with your interview!

Iamblossom · 09/06/2016 08:21

Yes to tights in supermarkets, I get mine from tescos. My navy dress is years old but similar sounding to PP, it came with a slip underneath as is quite sheer.

Good luck!

A plain coloured belted shirt dress can look smart or if you want to go without a jacket, you can't go wrong with a crisp white shirt and black trousers or skirt.
Thin nude tights are a must with a skirt but have a spare pair in your bag as they snag and ladder if you so much as look at them.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/06/2016 08:30

Oh and good luck with your interview! Smile

whattheseithakasmean · 09/06/2016 08:33

Whatever you do, wear a jacket - you can take it off before or after. Men usually wear suit jackets, you must be a smart as them. Jacket says you made an effort for the interview.

hazelnutlatte · 09/06/2016 09:32

Ok I'm going to wear sheer tights and jacket - hope I don't roast!

Sounds a bit revealing Shock can you wear a skirt or trousers too? Grin

Homeriliad · 09/06/2016 10:21

Whatever you decide to wear, console yourself with the fact that at least you don't have to wear a tie like I did yesterday.

hazelnutlatte · 09/06/2016 15:26

No I thought just the jacket and tights would do! Maybe a tie as well to finish it off!

I had a job interview a few years ago when it went really hot in May & wore a black shift dress from F&F at Tesco, matching jacket, nude tights & court shoes. Afterwards took off jacket, tights & shoes and put on flip flops from my bag because I was roasting but the look must have been smart enough for the interview as I got the job
