simple knee-length throw-it-on dress for holidays

That's what I'm after. Going to hot country for lying around the pool villa type holiday. 90% of holiday wardrobe will be shorts, t-shirts, short skirts, swimwear etc.

I feel the one item missing is a simple dress for those occasions where I might need to scrub up very slightly. No sweaty polyester, nothing strappy, nothing that will accentuate my middle age spread. Don't want to spend loads of money on it as it's purely for a week's holiday in the sun and will no doubt get suncream on it. Does such an item exist or should I just take a nice top and wear with denim skirt for such occasions? I quite like the thought of flinging on a little frock, though ...

The dress LIZS linked to is great. I have it in the black and the navy/cerise but had to size down Smile

Could someone please link to the Oasis ones? I can't see them.

I bought the next dress in LIZS post in every colour for my holidays as it really suited my size 16 Apple shape. Also bought this broderie one from Asda - it's lovely on!

Me & Em does an amazing style: I've got 2 of the same dress for when the first one wears out. This is this year's version:www.meandem.com/tie-waist-summer-dress-navy

When I wear mine, I get lots of compliments along the lines of French elegance. It's the easiest thing to wear, washes well, rolls up in the suitcase, cool when it's boiling, wear it over a bikini, or to a posh restaurant. It's perfect.

Thanks to whoever recommended the oasis pleated dresses. I've just bought in the black and the navy. They're exactly what I'm looking for.

Can anyone help me find a dress I saw someone wearing earlier this week?

It was plain dark blue, looked a bit like a short-sleeved shirt dress; it fell to a bit below the knees, and had a drawstring at just below natural waistline.

I just thought it looked the ideal dress for the summer (in the proper school run sense, and encompassing beach if it's a good cotton or something else durable that washes well)

I like the length of that Oasis dress. What is the sizing like? I am a UK size 12 on top but 14 on the bottom. I find dresses tricky sometimes because size 14 gapes under the armpits but sometimes the 12 can be too clingy on the bum.
I just bought a Lands End shift dress but the Medium size was huge on me so I have had to return it.

I have one of the Boden casual jersey dresses but I find the waist is quite high and it makes me look a bit pregnant!

Flupcake I'm a 12-14 and the medium fits perfectly.

Saw this today too. It's lovely but only seems to come in white.

Ahh - saw that too but hadn't realised it was the same dress. It's not green, but a pretty horrible looking turquoise.

What do you think of this chambray dress?

I don't think my boobs will fit in the casual jersey dress, so I've ordered the curved seam one instead.

White company are usually good for these too but they don't seem to have done them this season. I have loads for work and hols.
