What to wear abroad to blend in and not SCREAM Tourist!

Well I go abroad this month and want to try and blend in pretty impossible considering I'm whiter than Caspar. At least I can try.
I don't want to look like a tourist I would like to blend in.
The obvious is one only wear swimwear on the beach.
Wouldn't wear a maxi dress anywhere I literally drown in them.
Wouldnt be caught dead in socks and sandals I'm not a middle aged american man.
Any thoughts

I think that you could do an image search online and see what the local are wearing.

Depends where you are going. But I always think that having brand new clothes, freshly pressed and shiny new shoes makes you look like a tourist.
Wear clothes that are sort of worn in a bit more.

It's more about attitude. And beige. You need to stroll nonchalently and not wear beige. Ever. Or Chinos. Or Birkenstocks.
I am abroad and live on the seafront of abroad. Tourists are immediately noticeable for their speed of walking, backpacks, and birkenstock style footwear.
Obviously if beige and birkies are to your taste, then there is nothing wrong with either. I think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking in terms of 'holiday' clothes rather than just 'summer' clothes. Then, lo and behold, you get the foul maxi dress and multicoloured kaftan wotsits.

Wear navy as it would flatter your pale skin, lots of breathable fabrics and non logo stuff. Enjoy your holiday and don't worry about what your wearing too much I think that's where lots of brits abroad go wrong, they put too much thought into their holiday wardrobe and have everything matching or wear things they wouldn't wear at home (I've never understood that) just wear what you'd usually wear and enjoy your trip

Depends on where you're going, but just wear your normal clothes. It screams tourist if you have clearly gone out and bought a 'holiday wardrobe' of stuff that you would normally never wear.

I always get asked for direction wherever we go

I just wear normal clothes, normal handbag and normal shoes! ....I think it is usually the back pack, waterproofs and comfy shoes that mark out a tourist

I'm not sure it's possible.

We were in Vegas recently and the street hawkers would flag down DH with "hey English" to get our attention FFS

we've not even lived in the UK for 10 years...

My Mum used to live in Spain and you could always tell the tourists (though not a touristy town but lots of people with holiday homes) as they wore swimwear/bikinis teamed with shorts and maybe a skimpy top round the supermarket...but you could always see the bikini straps underneath
