Is black nail polish generally considered fashionable?

I think if it's dense and shiny it looks really glam. I see black nails as a classic, much like bright red. Agree that a glitter topcoat looks great too.

I like it but never wear it as it is difficult to maintain. If the rest of you isn't gothy then I think it looks really cool!

Does it matter whether it's fashionable or no? If you like it and think it looks good, wear it.

I was just coming on to say I think it looks great with tanned hands and feet, and, most importantly, short nails! I had to google coffin nails; they are awful. I hate long nails though so it's a personal taste thing.

rachelmonday1 · 18/06/2016 11:06

ClarenceTheAngel: No, I don't think it matters much, but I was thinking about what to wear for a night out with a group of younger friends and just didn't want to make a "fashion faux pas"! :)

MargoLovedTom I totally agree and thankfully my nails are normally kept quite short, but I've still not tried black......yet!

Just put a Base coat underneath whatever you do as some dark shades can stain your nails yellow like you wouldn't believe!

With nail varnish. It's not really about what's fashionable. It's all about what suits in individual.
Why not go to pound world and buy a black nail varnish and try it on. Even if you look awful in it. Noone's ever going to know you tried black nail varnish on, and you'll have only wasted a £.

I had my nails done in John Lewis with OPI Peace and Love which is a dark grey with purple/green tones. I liked it so much I bought a bottle, I would secretly like black but it's not as severe.

I dont know if its fashionable but it is definitely not my style! It is too gothic for me. I would much rather prefer colours that are dark but not completely black. Anyway, it might look good if you put a top coat and make it more shiny.

Janey50 · 20/06/2016 18:55

No it's not fashionable. That's why I love it.

ShelaghTurner · 20/06/2016 19:19

Love it too. Wouldn't occur to me to worry about whether it was fashionable or not. But then I'm not exactly a dedicated follower of fashion anyway Grin
