Subscription boxes

So, I'll happily admit that I'm a subscription box junkie. But I've been out of the UK for a year with work. Now we are looking at heading back so I'm going to sign up again. But I have a rule for myself that I can't be subscribed to more than one at a time (or I have no hope of ever using up the products).

I'm looking for advice. What's currently worth looking at? In the past I've subscribed to GlossyBox, My Little Box, Pink Parcel and Birchbox. Do I go with one of those, or is there something new/different that's better than all of them? I've just discovered that you can get a subscription box of face masks from Korea which is tempting for a month or two.

I used to get Birchbox and Glossybox until I realised I had two drawers full of samples that I wouldn't use. I cancelled them both and now get Not Another Bill. Bit more expensive but I love pretty much everything I get. It isn't beauty related though. I've had jewellery, chopping boards, mugs, scarves etc. It's definitely worth looking at if you're not set on receiving beauty products!

mrsmortis · 21/05/2016 13:09

SickRose - that's why I limit myself to one at a time. Also I cleared out before we came out here, so right now I have hardly any samples (mainly perfume samples which I get when I repurchase my makeup staples).

I lust after Not Another Bill though.

I'm addicted to beauty boxes. I love look fabulous. You get loads of stuff including the latest Marie Claire or Cosmo magazine. I also subscribe to Birchbox glossy and My Little Box. I don't drink or go out a lot. Plus dh pays the subscription to two of them as a Christmas present. You by the mail is rubbish. My LF box was stolen from my porch and they sent me another one immediately when I emailed asking where it was. If you sign up this month you get the best hairbrush ever. It's a wet brush and slides through knots like a hot knife through butter. It's worth more than the subscription alone. I keep any products I don't want to one side and pass them on as gifts.

KittySnow86 · 21/05/2016 15:21

I like My Little Box best. I like the themed boxes (even if they are very loose with it) and the mix of beauty and lifestyle. My December box came with a full size Nars blusher so definitely happy with the value for money too!

iklboo · 21/05/2016 15:29

I get the Gin Explorer box - much better than cosmetics I won't use Grin

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 21/05/2016 15:46

Yes the Nars blusher was my fave item. Everyone comments on it when I use it. Is that full size though?! I thought it was a sample size. It's so dear. I'd be gutted only getting that much. The little box with the navy and gold stuff was fab. The mittens were snapped up by dd who's 10. She let me keep the make up bag and polishes under duress. :o

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 21/05/2016 15:51

Also my younger dd used my glossy box er box for her Easter egg competition. She turned it into a beauty parlour with a mirror, counter and chairs. She used items from her monster high and barbies sets for make up, appliances etc. It looked amazing.

I got love me beauty on a groupon deal for 3 months but won't be renewing - it's terrible. Hardly any choice and half of the products are the same for a couple of months in a row. Apart from the jewellery I only saw two full sized products too. Definitely wouldn't pay full price.
I love the look of My Little Box.

WipsGlitter · 21/05/2016 16:06

I got a Birchbox as a present its quite good. Interested to hear the You magazine one isn't any good - I saw an ad for it last week and thought it looked amazing!

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 21/05/2016 16:43

Wips I got a rose oil spray thing (that my mum fell in love with and kept harping on about how amazing it smells and nice it made her feel until I pretended to finally get the hint and give it to her) and a moisturising face spray. The other three items were more smelly oils. You get to choose two items but very limited choice.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 21/05/2016 16:51

Also on here everyone was saying how you only ever got perfume samples and moisturiser in most beauty boxes. In my experience you get a lot of hand cream. Seriously I'm good for hand cream for at least 5 years (the Crabtree and Evelyn one in this months glossy is gorgeous though and full size). You also get a lot of eyeliners. My fave samples to get are perfume, face cream and any make up. I adore beauty products and surprises so subscription boxes are perfect for me. Never had a bad box yet (You by the mail aside).

HeathrowExpress · 21/05/2016 16:52

I got a 70 ml Rodial stem cell cleanser and a 60ml Show Beauty hair treatment oil in my last You Beauty Discovery box. Both absolutely lovely. For £6.95 I thought it was brilliant.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 21/05/2016 16:58

Was that this month? That is good value.

HeathrowExpress · 21/05/2016 17:09

Yes it's the May one. I agree with you that it's not always good. I just subscribe when I like the choice of products.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 21/05/2016 17:53

Yes the April one was rubbish. I may get this months though. They sound fab. What else was in it? Did you get to choose those items?

Sorry, £50! Not having much luck with my posts on this thread having linked to my personal account on the deleted post!!

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 21/05/2016 18:41

Oh :o was wondering what the big secret was. Is the £50 wrong too?

VanessaBet · 21/05/2016 19:56

I've had the Look Fantastic boxes a few times and thought they were really nice.

hollinhurst84 · 21/05/2016 20:06

I get pink parcel and kawaii panda box (full size Korean beauty stuff)

AndNowItsSeven · 21/05/2016 20:09

My dd is 17 likes brands like Mac and fat face could anyone recommend a box?

Innermagic · 21/05/2016 20:21

I get you beauty box which is great for the price.
Cohorted box had hourglass lip cream and the Balm pallet this month they also have had Mac in there boxes before.
Cohorted also do a fragrance box which is a quarterly subscription and in the first one I received a lovely 100ml bottle of shalimar by guerlain

mrsmortis · 23/05/2016 11:07

Ooo... I hadn't heard of cohorted, but that looks good. Time to scour youTube for unboxings. Not cheap mind you. But given that I've promised only to get one, maybe I can justify it.

I like Latest in Beauty because you can see what's in it before you buy. They are generally great value. I ended up sending off stuff I knew I'd never use to Give and Make up.

Another one is Love Lula - natural products and generally good value too.

Off to look at some of the suggestions here.

Also - you can always sign up for someone like My Showcase or Neals Yard. You get a great deal on the starter pack and it really doesn't matter if you never sell anything. NYR is probably better as you get a discount, and as long as you spend £85 in one go, once a year, you stay on the system. You used to get a discount with My Showcase but not anymore unless you sell £300 worth of stuff.
