I have a dress that looks like this, can I wear it to a wedding or is it a bit too black?

I think it's fine

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/05/2016 10:01

Looks fine to me. You could use some coloured accessories or maybe add a coloured belt?
I did once go to a wedding of a Chinese couple and they told all the guests to avoid wearing black. In Chinese culture black at a wedding brings bad luck or death.
Other than that instance, I think it's completely acceptable and a nice dress.

I'd wear a red shrug and shoes with that to jazz it up. Nice.

Savagebeauty · 15/05/2016 10:04

Of course! I wouldn't add another colour at all.

MrPony · 15/05/2016 10:06

I don't have anything colourful I could add to it, it would be teamed with black heels and a black clutch.

I don't want the bride thinking I'm wishing bad luck on them!

As long as you're not immediate family, an ex of either of the happy couple, or have publicly made a negative comment about them getting married you'll be fine.

Savagebeauty · 15/05/2016 10:19

Do people actually think black is unsuitable?? How ridiculous.

MrPony · 15/05/2016 10:22

I'm probably a bit suspicious, I've always associated it with bad luck!

Definitely it looks great

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/05/2016 10:26

I wouldn't worry as long as you look fairly smart. I've seen black dresses at weddings.
Surprised you have nothing colourful to wear with it though. A cardi? Jacket? Necklace?
How about painting your nails bright pink?

TheWindInThePillows · 15/05/2016 10:27

I remember one year really struggling to find a nice outfit that wasn't black, turning up and finding most of the guests were in black/dresses, some with no other colour at all. It was a very stylish wedding, so now I don't bother about whether I'm wearing black or not.

MrPony · 15/05/2016 10:40

Im not a colourful person Ilost!
Glad this is acceptable though, it's a relief Smile

Fair enough. Have a lovely time Smile

shockedballoon · 15/05/2016 10:49

That's a lovely dress - where's it from?
I would have no problem wearing this to a wedding, though I would be one of the ones who'd use bright accessories. But only because that'd suit me better.

If in doubt ask the bride. I had a couple of girls ask if it was OK to wear black at my wedding. I appreciated being asked.
